Transmission question

This morning, I left for work but for some reason it won't move..

I put her into Drive and when I step on the gas, it goes no where. The engine is revving and all but barely moving..

I tried it in second gear and same thing but when I put it in 1st. It goes without any problem..

What is it that caused it to not go in drive?

thanks.

It sounds like the tranny is slipping. I Hope I'm wrong, but take a look at the ATF and see if it's dirty, burnt, milky, or low. Also check your coolant and make sure the strawberry fairy didn't visit you. Good luck.

Check level and condition first. If all looks OK there...shift sprag. I went through this...ended up getting a donor transmission.

the fluid level is correct, I changed it out about 10k miles ago.. no burnt smell or anything..

Brian, no strawberry fairy visited me..

Now is pefectly fine... Shifts fine and everything..

Mine was intermittent as well. But manually shifting to first gear always worked. If you find that this starts to happen after coming to a stop from highway speeds, it's most certainly the same problem I had. Find a decent transmission shop and have them drop the pan to inspect the valve body...that's about the only other thing it could be.

You might get lucky and just need a new solenoid. I think you can get all 3 for ~$200...and you can change them yourself.

thanks for the tips brian, I will have a look at it tomorrow..

funny thing is, it happens like once every 3 months or so...

It doesn't sound like this is the problem but if the 4WD Gear selector is in neutral the tranny will behave as described, IDK about the moving in first gear thing but it definitely wont go anywhere in D.
