I have a transmission pump that apparently is going out. 2003 4.7 V8, with 172,000 miles--I towed extensively.
The rest of the car is in good shape.
The local guys who i have used before are reluctant to use any of the used transmissions that we can find online at salvage yards--they are 130,000 plus miles and not from vendors that that they know.
They have offered a rebuild for about the same price as installing a used with a one year\12k mile warranty. The shop has been around for a long time and is well respected in the community.
Their argument is that they find more problems with getting customers happy with used transmissions becuase if there is a problem, the shop is left to argue with the vendor about warranty and installation practices/problems. When they rebuild, they control the quality and can address problems knowing what they are dealing with.
Thoughts?
