Transmission shifter very hard to shift

I need your guys help in diagnosing his one. I want to thank you all for all the help and advice over all these years. Saved me a ton of time and money and having the satisfaction of fixing it myself.

Here's my question what would cause my auto transmission shifter to work perfectly for months then all of a sudden it's a bi@$h to shift between gears. You need to really muscle the shifter to shift from Park to Reverse or drive to neutral. This last time I wasn't sure it was going to make it into park. I know zip about trans and need your advice. Are these shifter electronic, cable or vaccuum? Is there some type of linkage that might need grease? I had a pink milkshake about 200k ago and up until now trans has been perfect. The truck has over 345k now. I'm hoping this might be an easy fix. This truck is my baby and I'm hoping my trans ain't dying. Thanks again for all great advice, I've search all over and couldn't find anything similar.

You could check your linkage under the truck and see if anything is binding. Also you could pull out your leather boot inside the truck and see if anything is getting in the way of shifter's travel.

If it's an internal issue, I would just replace the tranny rather than spending one cent diagnosing, especially with 345k miles. Cheap and easy

I'm having this very same issue...

It's been tough to pull into gear lately.. Some days it's smooth as butter and others it takes a great deal of force to get it in gear...

Does anyone know what could be causing this???

I have adjusted the linkage many times since I've had this issue..
Is there a washer in that connection I can replace?

It's odd it's fine one day and hard to shift the next..

I can't help much because I am having a very similar issue in my 2016 4R Limited with 49K on the clock. I was hoping to find some answers here. Mine goes into all gears fine but the shifter is getting pretty stiff and the D in the dash display comes on sometimes but not always. Now I have the check engine and trac off lit up on my dash.

Gary, you'll get better results under the 5th gen section of the forum. This is for 3rd gens. But I will say that there's some useful info above. Something might be in the way of the shifter underneath the trim pieces. Also check your linkage underneath the truck. Maybe something with the bushings in the shifter itself? But I'm not entirely sure on that one.
