Transmission shudder WHEN STOPPING?

I've read all manner of threads here pertaining to the rumble strip issue and other torque converter related issues. What baffles me here is, I'm only just now getting a minute amount of shudder, and it's not between gears either. Only ever happens when I'm crawling in stop and go traffic. Its almost like the torque converter can't make up its mind to lock or unlock. I have 188k on the clock. I have done a full drain and fill through the cooling line probably 20k ago, just did shudder fix on Monday, no luck. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Not afraid to change out a tc, but only if I have to

Have you ever greased your driveshaft or slip yokes??

Is it when you're braking?

I recently replaced my rear brake calipers and rotors after reading about "shuddering" when stopping.

I tested to see if I had a stuck caliper after a medium-range drive with minimal braking. My rotors were super hot and would boil water that hit them after the drive.

I don't know if it was the rotors or the calipers that were the problem but after replacing both my 4runner no longer shudders when stopping.

What fluid did you do the exchange with?

Toyota WS?

Does sound like a lockup situation. If it were my rig I’d do a 4qt exchange of Maxlife ATF and add a full bottle of Lubeguard Red.

I have no data to back it up but I believe Maxlife has superior detergency and along with the Lubeguard will help unsludge transmission parts.

I had only 20k on my WS exchange and I did a full 12qt exchange with Maxlife with I already notice better shifts and throttle response from a stop.

Exchanged with 14 qts of maxlife.

I could be mistaken but I don't believe that the torque converter is designed to lock up in the lower gears, only 4th and 5th, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I though that, but even if I'm rolling at the speed idle can carry me, I can feel it. Thought it might be tires too, but the shudder is not consistent with the tires turning

Are you the original owner, do you tow stuff? When you did a full drain and refill, how much fluid did you replace? What kind of fluid did you use? What's the level of the transmission fluid right now, could be low?

Did the original owner tow stuff?

Second owner. Not sure if original owner towed. I don't currently tow anything. I flushed 14 qts of max life, level is good.
