Transmission temp gauge

Anyone here installed a tranny temp gauge in their 4Runner? I'm looking to do it, and wondering if there is anywhere on the trans that is easy to tap into for the sending unit (an unused port, perhaps).

What are some thoughts on where to put the gauge in the vehicle? Anyone have any other gauges mounted? I'd like to put an oil pressure and volt meter in there sometime as well.

I installed one in my 2002 4runner. Different engine but I could not find anywhere to tap into so I just cut the rubber tran line and installed a t-fitting for the sending unit. For my 04 runner I think I am just going to go with a scan gauge.

What timing. I was just wondering this myself as I am now towing on somewhat a regular basis with my 06 4R. I am anxious to see what others have done.

I am thinking of adding a gauge just opposite the 4WD selector, directly underneath the hazard switch. I think it would look cool there, but the Scagauge will be easier to install/hook up. I can also monitor some other stuff for cheaper than buying multiple gauges.

Just for grins, here is the load that I will be towing most of the time. Been towing it since the 4Runner was new. Does a great job!!

Already have Timbrens. The truck is leaning just a bit because it's pointing up hill. It's hard to tell in the pick, but it sits perfectly level on level ground. I've been thinking of adding the air springs anyway, but I've got a truck when I need to haul heavier loads, so they would really just be for fun (like everything else I've added to the 4Runner).

I gotcha. I've never met anyone with the Timbrens. What do you suppose about them?

I really like them. They've been on for about 4 years now. They let the back drop about 3/4 inch before they contact and they handle the weight really well. The truck rides level no matter how many people or how much weight is in the back.

I also really like that you don't have to adjust them for the unloaded ride to stay stock. I'd definitely put them on again, especially on an SUV that doesn't usually carry a ton of cargo, or a wide variation of weight (the boat and some gear is usually about as heavy as it gets).

Does a Scanguage or UltraGauge show trans temp on a 4Runner? That may be a neat option.
