Hey boys & girls, wonder if you can help? I have an 87 4-runner, 5 speed, w/135K miles. Because I had a work truck for several years, the Toyo sat in the drive thru all the elements (I live in the North East)and was only driven on the weekends. Well, I lost the work truck and have been using the Toyo daily for 1/2 year now. I decided to have the tranny, transfer case & differential fluids changed (thought it would be good), and as far as I know they were never changed before. "Now" it seems harder to get it in 1st & 2nd gears, but worse, I have this crazy noise coming from under the shifter area at times. The noise only happens when it's been colder, and the Toyo has sat for several hours. Only happens at the beginning of my trip, usually when I have been maybe into 1st & 2nd, back to neutral. The noise is a "spinning" noise, like gears, but is independent from the engine rpm. The spinning is quicker than my engine rpm's initially, then winds down, and as it comes to a stop, there is a "thud" like a gear is "banged" into place. What the heck "spins" under the shifter area that is independent of engine rpm's ? Help! Thanks for anything you can provide.
