I have an 07 4 Runner Sport 2WD with 38k miles. This evening when I started it, I noticed it had a strange shake while in park. I shifted to neutral and it mostly went away. Again, back into park and the shake was back. I drove about a mile down the street, sluggishly reaching about 45mph before I came to a stop sign. Then, when I accelerated to go there was nothing. The engine revved for 3 or 4 seconds then finally jerked into gear. This happened again on my way home.
There are no check engine codes but I'm really concerned and will be taking it to the local dealership in the morning. Hopefully the problem falls under the powertrain and is still under warranty.
I am not very car knowledgeable and was wondering if anyone else here has experienced this issue or has any input. Do you think I could be dealing with a transmission that's about to completely fail? Thanks
