Transmission Worries

Hello All!

I purchased my 05 V8 4Runner in September with approximately 78k miles. I don't know if I'm paranoid... But when it is cold, there is a delay going into second gear. I have also noticed on one occasion that it wouldn't go into O/D when cold and tonight I put it into drive while rolling backward on a hill and heard a strange noise in addition to my traction light coming on...

So my question is, has anybody had problems with their transmission? Had to have it rebuilt? Or should I change the filter and fluid?

Thanks for your imput and Happy Motoring!

Well putting it into Drive while rolling backwards triggered your hill start assist and traction control because it sensed wheel slip. That's happened to me a few times as well. I'm extra conscious of being at a full stop rather than rolling backwards before accelerating.

True dat! Mine did that once and ever since, complete and utter stop with a slight pause at N on the way to D lol!

^^^ Gotta come to a complete stop when shifting!

Any tranny shifts at a slightly higher rpm when cold. After the truck warms up to operating temp it should shift normally.

I got DAT hesitation; cold here in the Rockies, its normal and (+1 for full stop; it irks me when...ppl do that)

these trannies make all kind of noises and bumps and clinks/clunks, AND as i have heard around before.."right when your 4runner sounds like its about to explode, all is normal"

its also electronically controlled so bad shifts are much reduced, and you can rest easy knowing its doing its thing.:thumb:

be worried if its a slip or /or lots of gas= no fast
