Just went out for my first drive in the snow with my 2000 4runner. Had it in
4H and ulled into a driveway to turn around and it wouldn't shift into reverse. Luckily i was on a bit of an incline and was able to roll back onto the road in neutral and get moving agian. I drove for a couple of miles in 2wd and tried the transmission agian - worked fine. I put it back in 4wd and it it shifts no problem. Any ideas? Could this have anything to do with 6inches of heavy wet Canadian snow? This neve happened on my Pathfinder....

how does this happen? What do you do to correct the problem while it is going on?? Should i have shifted it back into 2wd and then tried for reverse? I admit i am a rookie when it come to this 4wheel drive system. In the past i had a pathfinder that was automatic - just turned the dial and it changed modes. The light was on the dash that indicated 4wd...how would it slip into neutral?

Thanks for your help.

I've had more than a few panic attacks only to realize that my TC was in neutral

i thought i broke my car one time when this happened, i was offroading on private property and put it into 4wd and after a minute i hit a bump it popped out and i didnt know and it would just rev, i was so scared till i found out how big of a dumbass i was and put it back into a 4h/l

And its takes a little bit of time to recongize that you are out of 4wd.
