Has anyone transplanted a toy 4.7 v8 into a third gen 4runner, I was thinking of giving it a go.

your not alone. i was thinkering about this for a few month. i love the V8 feeling. having a SC is nothing like having a V8 raw power without the premium gas price.

i have a 04 Tundra and have sat it side by side with my 4runner. the motor looks way to big for the runner's frame. you might have to cut and weld alot. not only you have to deal with that, but you have to think about all V8 power on a V6 drivetrain. you might have to upgrade some of the parts.

if you do this, please do a write up and take tons of picture of the project.

Good Luck!

I have also thought about this. I have also thought about putting the newer V6 engine and transmission in a 3rd Gen. I haven't found anyone who has done either yet, though.

Actually I came across one site where it was done! I believe you had to do like a 2" BL. Unfortunately I can't find the link at the moment. However, it is do-able.

I saw someone on Yotatech that had done it with a land cruiser v8, i don't think it was a 4.7 though. I believe he swapped the tranny too, and had to do a body lift to get the hood to close. I'll go look for it.

Edit: I found the write up, but it was a 2nd gen. Still pretty sweet.

IIRC the only V8 that came in the Land Cruiser before the newer 5.7L V8 is the 4.7.

You are correct. My work internet is being super slow right now, so I'm not going to click on that link, but it's probably a V8 from a Lexus SC/GS/LS400 -- 4.0L V8.

For me, I would rather put in the 4.0L V6 from the 4th Gen's. 3rd Gen body + 4.0L V6 would be a great combo. But my ultimate dream rig would be a diesel 3rd Gen.
