Transponder in 99 4runner?

I want to install a remote starter on my 99 4runner but i dont know if the key has a transponder in it, so i dont know if i need a transponder bypass kit. Does anyone have experience with a remote start on a 3rd gen. 4runner? Any negatives to it? I just dont want to make my car any easier to steal or anything. If it matters, its the limited 4x4 version and comes with the keyless entry with these keys....
