I have acquired a 2011 T4r and want to know if anyowne has pulled a travel trailer with theirs that weighs over 7,000 lbs? Mine pulls the coleman pop-up that weighs around 3,800 ok, I got 15.4 miles per gallon on the 45 mile trip. I have the oppertunity to get an up grade but it is quite a bit heavier. Zi/

If you do try this please post where you are traveling so I can stay home with my family. IMO you shouldn't be towing anything if you are willing to even ask that question.
Trailer towing
Seems to be a lot of questions today about towing.
I have a 2011 SR5 and put in a tranny cooler and tranny temp gauge. I have towed a 3400lb boat + 1100lb trailer and some gear - so right at 5,000lbs, the max allowed. The 4runner pulled it fine, and the tranny temps were fine (less than 200 in the mountains east of Phoenix going to the lake), but I would NOT feel comfortable towing much more.
The achilles heel is the brakes. I have "coasted" through a couple reds/stop signs because I couldn't stop the truck and trailer when I first started tow. Now I adjust my speed (SLOW!) accordingly. My trailer only has surge brakes and if someone slammed on their brakes in front of me on the freeway, there is no way I could stop. I heavily rely on the transmission to slow the truck and trailer by downshifting.
You tow that kind of weight and the truck will probably do okay getting going, but you won't be able to stop it.
