TRD CAI vs K&N AIR FILTER

I know there is few topics about this, but after few months I would like to ask if you really see any improvements, if any. I don't know if i should spend $368.51 for trd intake or get a k&n filter for $60. Is there any body with k&n air filter and oem intake, how is it?

I have the K&N filter with the OEM intake. I like it better then the OEM filter. I noticed an immediate difference in pick up. It was not much, but enough to be noticeable and justify keeping the KN filter. Can't tell you about about gas mileage because about the same time, I put on new larger tires which screws up the Odem/mileage computer.

Far as I can tell from the various posts, those who bought either the TRD the other intakes, ARB maybe, did not notice much performance difference except for sound.....at least that is what I was gleaning from the posts.

I can't imagine that an 8 or 10 horsepower increase that a CAI is supposed to provide would even be noticeable. I've had a K&N for about 5000 miles. It's great, cost me $50, and never needs to be replaced.:cowboy:

I was planning to do TRD CAI and Flowmaster, but i don't really see a huge difference between stock intake box and trd cai box. I was thinking you get this cool sound because of trd filter.

I use the K&N in my motorcycle and noticed a slight increase in performance because of the increased airflow. Be careful if you use your vehicle in dusty conditions as you will need to keep an eye on the filter and follow the instructions in the cleaning & oiling kit. (btw, you will need one of those) !

Sound did change a little bit, but only when I really got on it. Others with the TRD box seemed to notice a sound difference with just a a little throttle. I too have asked the question to the forum regarding the big difference between the aftermarket CAI's vs the OEM, but did not get an answer. I seem to remember one post way back which suggested the OEM has some unwanted "baffles" in the tube area, where as the aftermarket units eliminated them, hence better un disturbed air flow. I can't confirm this and hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts.

I too want to open up the exhaust a bit, to better match the KN filter's better air flow. I am also looking at Flowmaster, Model 12586 which is the 22 incher. Most posts that I have read seem to favor this one over the 18 incher. The later being too loud. Before I pull the trigger, would really like to hear a comparison of the 22 inch and 24 inch. (Don't have the model number of the 24 inch right now). I live in a neighbor hood of mostly older retired folk and do not want to make enemies when I leave for golf at 7:00 AM!

There is a difference in sound with both of these mods, however if the truck is not moving (if rpm's arent above about 2000), the muffler is as quiet as the stock muffler and the air filter is as quiet as the stock. I was worried about my older neighbors also, but nobody has complained...and i get up at 3:00 a.m. However, I love how it sounds when you get the rpm's going.

Just an FYI,

I ordered mine on Amazon.com.

Also, what I didnit do, but now wish I did:

Have the muffler pipe exit out behind the right wheel. This will decrease the bad smells when your rear window is open.

Thanks, I was just looking at Amazon for the price. Best I can find is 91.00 and some change. But, that is not too bad. And yes, I was already considering the bend of the tail pipe, maybe even a SS tip there. We shall see. Thanks again.
