TRD cold air intake

i was too bored and went to toyota.com and build a 4runner price. i put the zipcode as new york, and found out they do have a TRD cold air intake system to be purchased.... TOO BAD IT IS NOT CARB LEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but that would be nice if TRD can provide fact sheet and make it CARB legal, it does look really sharp with a big TRD letters on the custom airbox....

p.s. the one i saw is for V8, not the older style for V6

I say Buy one, Install, Enjoy it.... Don't worry about it until 2012. Then, you will only have to convert to stock once every 2 years to get it smog checked in Cali....

I think they look cool, too, but I am gonna get one once my warranty runs out....mostly for the Sound and the few hp gains...

LOL, i went in deep and just did more research. TRD site didn't state one, only for V6, but i guess toyota site just shows the general performance parts, didn't specify on whether V6 or V8..... :(

i would if mine is a V6. msrp $330 seems pretty reasonable, down side it is not CARB legal...

TRD claims max horsepower gains is 15hp and 11lbs of torque, both are not at extremely high rpm but in mid around 3000rpm which we can use that power range most of the time. not bad for the money at all.

trueflow xdi intakes looks better and performs better. or u can get afe since trd and afe intake looks the same.

:iagree: first smog check is six years from the purchase date, you still have at least four years of enjoyment lawwailok. A buddy of mine had a straight pipe exhaust (gutted the cats) on his WRX. He replaced it with the stock exhaust for a few days for the smog check. After that was done, back on went the straight pipe. Granted, he knew someone with access to a shop lift.

i don't think it will be a direct fit, TRD site says the application is for 4.0 V6 only.... i assumed the intake tubing route has difference between V6 and V8, right? if it requires fabrication, then i rather keep my stock....

My mistake. I skimmed over your post and thought it's available for both V6 and V8, not a V6 specific application. If it requires tweaking to get it to work on the V8 and being it's not CARB legal, it's not worth the hassles.
