TRD intake VS K&N Intake

Hi, just wondering if some one had an opinion on which of this two would work better on a 4runner V8.

I guess performance wise they are almost the same and I imagine both produce a nice sound.

But my concern before ordering either one is..... which one would work better off road. I imagine that the K&N could get clogged more often.
Can any one comment over this?

The Volant looks like the better intake to me just beacuse the filter is boxed in. This would almost eliminate sucking in the hot air from the engine bay. The K&N might come with a shield but it wouldnt do as good a job as the Volant. This is all my opinon though. I will be going with the Volant when I have the money.

I've decided to look for CAI's again. Volant and K&N seem to be the top dogs.
Any more opinions on this? I remember reading on here that Volant's CAI allows more airflow and sounds better, and K&N's get clogged up easier.

Money aside, which one?

i went volant with powercore (dry) filter, & modded it. jet map sensor too.

so on the volant, is that fron hole for a grill intake? Is that part of this kit, or just hole for an add on kit?

im getting ready to do something on the intake. Living in AZ, where we see 110 for 3 or 4 months, i worry about the high heat engine air on an open filter, but in all reality, the plastic box currently probably doesnt deflect much engine heat as is.

the front hole is for a grille mounted ram air tube but it doesnt fit the 4r, only the taco, Volant 38640 at AutoAnything there are also 2 different filters with the volant, 1 wet, 1 dry, id suggest the dry.

I have a v8 2003 (4th gen).

I may go with this volant. I may also tinker with a way to DIY it to have some ram air on that. I think ram air here would really do some good to the intakes.

So i went ahead and got the Volant CAI. Got it in this weekend. WOW what a difference. I have a stock v8, no exhaust (yet) and this sounds amazing, and i think i feel a little more kick when i need to power.

further testing is needed to see if it helps our MPG averages. I get about 22 maybe 23 on a normal highway trip, but i have seen 25 though new mexico once. may have had a tail wind. Our average use keeps us in the 19 - 20mpg range with my wifes short trips around town.

installed in about 30 minutes with no issues or mods.
