TRD Leather Kit and DVD Install

WOW!!! Hey guys FINALLY got the Leather TRD Kit installed from Classic Soft Trim. Man what a match!!! Since I have the Side Airbag seatsw believe it or not, TRD did not license their logo's to go on the airbag equipped seats. You can ONLY order the LOGO's with the Non-airbag seats. Well a trip to my local custom Upholsterey shop fixed all that. Logos on the front and back with a little nicer addition, You will see pics when I get my new Digital SOny Camera. DSC-T1. I am waiting for it to arrive!! I am going crazy.

Also went with 7 Inch DVD in the headrests. Custom, can operate each screen independently(one watching movie and the other Playing a game on my xbox) Real nice set-up.

Went with AudioVox Raw LCD Screens in the Headrests. I had to ahcnge out the DVD player to the "Movie 2 Go" AudioVox Line because I wanted to run the screens seperately(one watching movie and one playing a game at the same time) Just in case.

The shop I went through did an OK job. I basically tore the truck apart last night until 5:30 am(yes I am crazy) and saw all their wiring mistakes and sloppiness they tried to hide under the center console. Basically it looked like 100ft of cable just thrown in there. So my anal self, I tie strapped everything and hide most of the wires, but the two control boxes are a pain in the butt to hide under there. NO ROOM. The rear pass through vent takes up so much room under there. So after all that time installing and uninstalling they finally went in there. Now TOnight I have to re-mount the DVD player with double sided velcro becasue I hate the way they used the Angle mounts. THis way it will be flush and neat.

The only thing I got mad at them was for drilling my center dash trim right under the hazard button. That;s where they mounted the FM modulator switch. I wish I knew they were going to put in a switch, I would have told them to use the dummy switches behind the gear shift. They said there was no room under there due to the length of the switch. All in all I am happy since this is not a show car, Got the DVD for the kids and myself mainly.

Now the leather write up is coming.........next

I won't have it until MOnday though...


I spent 1300 for the DVD set-up
1095 for the Leather installed.

Watched Shrek 2 in the 4runner last night in the garage and MAN what a set-up. It sounded and looked better then my home theatre set-up in my house!!! Awesome.

One thing I did notice was tht they left the headrest wrapped with the cloth and re-wrapped the with the new covers??? Oh well, you can't tell, I could becasue I took thema apart. If you look at your headrest, under there there was a velcro strap holding it on only from the factory. I guess it is easier than stiching up a new headrest...

I can't wait to see pictures as well!

About the headrests, the rear headrests have the cloth glued on, so your only option is to rip the cloth on or just slip the new cover over. The cloth on the front headrests is removeable.
 
Guys:

I found a place that sells headrest monitors complete for $299 a pair. These are "leather" headrests with 7" screens imbedded. The stalks are width adjustable for various cars. Check them out at www.mp3playerstore.com.

They look like crappy quality but for that kind of money, I'm tempted to give them a try. Only problem is, they don't have speakers so I'd have to attach an RF transmitter to the head unit or somewhere else.

I gotta get this project done before Xmas so if anyone has input or has done it, I'd like to hear from them.

hmm...they say they are panasonic displays? i don't know about the quality of those. and i don't know if the grey leather would be an exact match for my truck.
 
I noticed the warning in red font about not supplying more then 12V?

So what happens when you start the Runner, and the alt supplies anywhere between 14-15V? Is it going to ruin them?
 
re: voltage. Isn't that what the voltage regulator is for? Does a functioning alternator with a functioning regulator deliver more than 12 volts? That would mess up a lot more than just these lcd screens, don't you think?

Mind you, they lack sound, switcher, headphones that the Vizualogic headrests deliver. But, for $300... Visualogic is $1,100 plus.
 
an alt will put out more then 12 when running. Put a multimeter at your battery terminals, and you'll see. I was checked my Runner to see the other day, when I was making those LEDs. I needed to know what my source voltage was, and when I reved up the truck, it got to around 14.5V

If you look at car amps, alot of times if you look at the spec sheet, they are tested at around 14-15 volts, because that is what a running electrical system is usually at.

I would think these monitors would be able to go up to that, but just thought it was odd the stated 12v and not 12-14 or something like that..
 
another set of headrests with Monitors

I have seen these in person and they have a nice picture and are very durable. Leather is the same dye as from the manufacturer:

last I remember these were running about $1400 with 2 monitors, 2 wireless headsets, 1 remote and 1 DVD player.

Larger vehicles (GMC/Chevy Full size SUVs) can get the DVD player built into each headrest with the screen.

One should also note that Panasonic USA only lists one 7" LCD automotive monitor that retails for $449 each (which includes an IR port) and it doesn't look anything like MP3's graphic.

I saw these. Actually the picture is not that great. There is a company I saw at SEMS called ICOn TV and those were simply the BEST Screens I have seen. I tried getting them into my truck, but couldn't. I ran out of time trying to talk to the rep. Besides the cost was crazy for a kit. Something like $3000K for two screens. There is another company called SAVV that looked really good, but a weak warranty. The next best looking screens to me were the top of the line audiovox units(which I have) I got them because they also have a 3 year warranty. You never know.


I am getting the digital camera today and will take those pictures....
 
WEll I got lucky and went to SEMA this year and saw ALL the LCD screens as all the big names were there. The Visualogics were faded out, not crisp at all. It is hard to put into words, blurry, colors didn't pop bright

THe SAVV's looked much better, but didn't have the warranty I was after.
The ICON's looks amazing(it's a wonder why they won like every single award)

The ICON rep actually told me the SECOND best in the industry were the Audiovox screens, followed by 'all others'

Like I said I wanted good screens with a great warranty as well.

I got the camera tonight and will be taking pictures

I got the Audiovox from a local store that doesn't sell to the public, actually they outfit new cars for dealers, then the dealers mark the hell out of the product and sell it back to the consumer.

I am taking the truck back in Monday so they can adress the minor fixes with the truck after install and leather.
 
Cool bud. I am taking back the camera to my buddy who will either burn all the pictures on disc or email them to me and we will go from there......

I can't wait to see those pics. I bet Noloc is even more excited, because he is considering this same kit. I think I'll PM him to make sure he has seen this thread.
