Hi

Just traded in 2006 SR5 for 2011 SR5 with premium and 3rd row pkg last month

like it very much except

North NJ is hilly, both 2006 and 2011 lack a little bit power/torque around 55- 60mph when climbing the hill

after reading the posts on TRO, just wonder

1. if TRO or K&N will help ?
2. which one to pick?

Thanks!

BTW, just saw many people are interested in the 4R mileage?
Mine is 23+ for a 1/4 local and 3/4 high-way

I have been using K&N for years, very satisfied and yes, I did notice a bit more power when I installed it on my 5th gen. Take a look at the OEM filter, very restrictive. I am also looking at getting a less restrictive muffler. Harper felt Magnaflow 12256-18inch may work the best. He just installed it a week or two ago and he said he will report back on it in the near future. Also, I am not sure, but I think K&N makes the TRD filter......thats the scuttlebutt I heard anyways.

I went with an AFE pro dry filter. I've used K&N in the past, but having to spend money and time washing and oiling it was a pain.

With the AFE there is no oiling. Just wash it, let it dry and reinstall.

I've also noticed that it improves the throttle response, as the truck felt sluggish with the factory air filter.

As for the TRD, are you referring to the entire intake or just the filter?

it takes the whole intake or just the filter to gain the improvement?

I use K&N. I asked the parts Dept what they thought cause i was looking at the TRD...they referred me to the K&N. Same filter, less $$

In mho, just the filter. We already have a CAI as I understand what a CAI is. It was the OEM filter which has the most restriction. I am not familiar with the other filters talked about here, but if they are less restrictive and they catch the dirt/dust, then it is a good thing.

I just picked up a K&N air filter from JEGS for $36.50 they are on sale right now hittem up before it's over the cheapest I have seen other than that was like $47 and some change.

Installed the TRD intake today. Truck feels more responsive and definitely sounds better. It's not night and day, but it's noticeable. Need to drive it in some midday heat to get a good feel for how much it's helping, but so far I like it.
