TRD shocks without fj springs

on my 05 4runner sr5 v8 i bought used trd shocks, sway bar bushing upgrade
and looking for tires.
do i really need to replace the springs, i dont care for the lift that much and money tight.
whats the pros and cons

Pros: will be easy to do while you're swapping, and will give a smoother ride.
I see no negatives, IMO it's worth the money for the ride improvement alone.

No 'cons' to the FJC springs IMHO. If money is tight and the OE shocks on the '05 are done then put in the new shocks. There's no doubt with fresh shocks, bushings and tires it'll feel like a new ride


What you lose is the "opportunity". Installing the new front shocks vs shocks and FJC springs (assuming you aligned on "new tire day") is ZERO extra labor.

Pros to new tires, TRD shocks and bushings: 1) More cost effective than purchasing FJ springs. 2) It'll drive great and if the OE shocks are fairly worn out you'll notice a big improvement. If the OE shocks are still strong the 'new' TRD shocks will provide an improvement just not as dramatic.

Cons to doing the job without the inclusion of FJC springs: 1) Should you choose to do the springs later you'll have to pay for another alignment.*** 2) Should you decide to add FJ springs later the labor to replace the stock springs will cost you money. If the front FJ springs were installed at the same time as the front shocks there would be no additional labor costs above and beyond the normal front shock labor.


***That's based on the assumption you'll do an alignment when the tires are installed.

If I were in your shoes I would base it on the expected tire life remaining. The reason I say that is because you'll do an alignment with the new tires.

If the tires will last long enough for you to save up a little and procure springs then get the springs. If they won't last long enough then skip the springs and don't look back.

i've been trying to find fj springs, the most i go is $100 including shipping but the ones i saw were outragous prices. i look in fj forum and here. i also want to buy spacers for the front to even it out.

There's no "within time" aspect to it. The day you put spacers on the front will look too high or not...

With FJC springs you probably want 1/4" thick (1/2"net lift) spacers. Without FJC springs you probably want 1/2" thick (3/4"+ net lift) if you are worried about butt sag. Toytec has both. They are cheap (under $75).
