I know, crappy iphone pic and I will try to get a better one once I get 2 seconds of time to snap one. The point of the mod was so that you don't notice it al all, given you can't see it in this pic....job well done. :zoom:

I'd say rattle can it and be happy. Powdercoat is nice but it's not bullet proof. I've bought two sets of Demello Offroad Sliders for previous FJ's, both powdercoated. Both arrived with scratches all the way through to the metal (UPS). No slight to D.O., they were excellent!

Point is, I ended up rattle canning them anyway to get them to look pristine again before mounting. If you get a good high bonding marine grade primer on as a base and a few good top coats, you'll have as good a finish as you'll get from powder coating for much less money. If you were talking wheels and other things that might not see direct impacts from rocks (even coming up from the road), I'd say powder coat. But the skid, where it is and what it is, is likely to see some amount of abuse that I don't think powdercoat will overcome any better than a good paint job.

So I haven't had any extreme angles to encounter yet.....
When I dipped it, I didn't know if it was going to stay that color, so it would be easy to remove.
Also, IMO, if I scrape it up, either painted or dipped, it would have to be redone.

Just an update fellas/gals...........

I noticed the plastidip at one of the letters had begun to peel (due most likely from the carwash pressure).
So, I removed it, removed the plastidip, used Duplicolor Self-Etching Primer, then sprayed it with Duplicolor Semi Gloss Black Acrylic Lacquer.

Just ordered my TRD skid plate, and while I love the treatment that [MENTION=103267]Saker[/MENTION] gave to his, mine will stay powder coated aluminum, as received.
I'm a bit of a minimalist.

I had mine powder coated textured black. Then left it at that. The red/white lettering looks great. But I couldn't get the plastidip letters to stick after I got it powder coated. Overall I'm still happy with it. Glad you got yours on. Looks great.
 
I painted mine back in May. I touch it up as needed.

Mine is off and for sale. Was contemplating upgrading to RCI steel anyway. After I installed my new bumper last night it won't work with the bumper anyway so it's definitely time for the upgrade. Anybody want a skid plate? Has a small dent in it that I will bang out.

NO..........















Except it's 1/4" thick aluminum plate and the OEM plate is a thin sheet of stamped steel, that will crush when it impacts any hard surface.
