TRD Transmission cooler installed, quick question

After reading more and more transmission failure stories (specifically '02 models), as well as recently acquiring a trailer for our 2 ATV's that I'll be towing, I decided to pick up a transmission cooler. Got the TRD one for about $180 shipped. I'll get some pictures up when I get home (on campus now). My question is, what's the best way to mount up a transmission temp gauge? Would taking a reading from the return line on the TRD cooler be meaningless? I have no idea how to get an accurate reading on transmission temps.

I dont know much about the cooler seeing as i have a stick, but if you are looking to run a gauge for it, i could suggest that you put them in the space under the radio unless you have a double din. This is a product that helps make it look proper.

I actually have that flip out DVD system with a storage pocket underneath, that I use frequently to put my wallet, cigarettes and phone into. Probably gonna mount it where that random space next to my 2 12V's are, or maybe a gauge pod on the A-pillar. I'm just curious as to where I should tap into the lines to get an accurate reading. A couple threads on YT showed people putting the sensor in the sender line.

Have you thought about getting a Scangauge? That way you'll get a lot more than just tranny temp

vdo isn't a very accurate gauge company, Dakota digital is where it's at and if you want to go crazy start looking into the light aircraft gauges.

also remember you're just measuring the temp of the fluid, so pretty much any oil,fluid, gauge should work for you.

the dakota digital's are self calibrating and calibrate every time at start up and while your driving, it senses the ambient air temps and the temp of the fluid and does the math to give you the best possible reading as opposed to the vdo's are pretty dumb and just measure like a normal thermometer would,

i have used a few of the dd gauges and few of the vdo's the dd's are just far nicer and built better.
