TRD Tundra Coil Spring alternatives?

Hey guys... looking to shoulder tap those of you that have done the Tundra coils on your rig. I'm looking to do the OME 906's with the Tundra springs in front with Billies all around. Like most, I'm balking at the cost of the Tundra springs. Half of the threads on T4R show a price much lower than they seem to be going these days ($160 a piece). I'm looking for a used pair like everyone else but they seem scarce. My question is this, has anyone had any luck with aftermarket Tundra coils? My gut tells me that likely I'll want to just bite the bullet and purchase new OEM (or used with low mileage if I can find it) but I keep running across links like this on ebay which is WAY cheaper than anything else. Anyone have experience with this coils? Other coils that work just as well? Thanks in advance...

X2. Run toytec eibachs. Far superior in every way and yes I have ran both. Had new oem Tundra coils for a year. You won't get 3" lift with them if you have any weight unless you run the third perch on tundra 5100s. They are a wide coil, which can lead to interference with the spindle as many people, including me, experienced. And they just didn't ride as nice as the eibachs (could be personal preference though).

How about OME 883s? I found a set of Tundras with Bilstein shocks at the local salvage yard for $80. After the winch/bumper I bought a set of 883s (used) to replace them. They gave me about 1" more lift than the Tundras (for the extra weight of the winch and bumper) and were not nearly as stiff (much better ride). The OME 883s are cheap too (~$160 a set - Old Man Emu 2883 Front Coil Set). I certainly would NOT consider buying new Tundra springs. The only reason to buy them used is because they are cheaper than OME springs, if you can find them. If you're buying new, buy springs for the 4Runner, not Toyota springs for something else that can be made to fit a 4Runner.

I used the Nitro 9000 shocks from Wheelers. They are stock height, but have a couple of inches more travel. I assume on the Bilsteins you'd use the lowest setting (stock height).

I've got '99 talls on the front with Tundra 5100s on the 4th perch with 906s. I'm pretty happy with the ride and would let you use what you have.

Just curious, has anyone used the Toytec Eibachs with 906s? Guessing you would put them on Tundra 5100s on the bottoms perch? Is it level?

Toytec/Eibach front coil lift springs

Straight from toytec at 170 bucks for two. They swap on just fine, just make sure you have 4runner top hats and not tundra ones. The tundra hats are too big to fit the eibach coils. I'm running them with tundra 5100s on the second perch and I'm at a hair over 3" lift. If you dont have any weight in the front I would definitely suggest the 1st perch. Will sit you right at or just below 3" once the coils settle.

Thanks for the tip. I just pulled the trigger on them. I'll have to return the Tundra hats, but the restocking fee is negligible compared to what I've just saved by getting these coils. Appreciate the tip. Have any pics with yours installed?

It is 21 1/2" in front, but that's with 170 lbs of ARB bumper and Warn M8000 winch. It would probably be about 3/4" higher without that.

In the back it's 22 1/2", but it's an odd setup. I have LC 7 7/8 springs, which made it way too high, but with the bumper, tire carrier, and about 200 lbs in the back end, it dropped about 1 1/2" to 2".

TCMach, question on the 4runner top hats. If the Eibach coils are Tundra coils then why wouldn't a Tundra top hat work with the Eibachs? You just found the 4runner top hats to work better?

If you use a die grinder on the holes it works fine

I went with the stiffer old man emu's on a set of tundra bilsteins (2nd perch) and I'm happy with them. The ride out front is a little rough and I'll post if there is sag once I put the plate bumper on there, but overall it saved a lot of money and works well. The LC 7 wraps out back gave me a little more rake than I expected though, so if you're going that route watch out.

TC I was trying to find the diameter of the Eibach springs for the longest time! I just wasn't sure if they were the diameter of Tundra springs which are larger than the 4runner springs. But as I understand it, the Eibach springs are essentially the same OD as a 4runner spring.

In all honesty I'd probably go for the TRD tundra springs with the 5100, however the stories of them hitting the spindles while flexed and at full droop scares me. Shouldn't have this problem with the Eibach's I presume....
