TreadWright Sucks

I ordered some Tread Wright tires back in July of this year. They originally told me it would be a 3 week wait. After 3 weeks and no call, I called them and they said it would be another 6-8 weeks. Now after 11 weeks of waiting for my tires, I had to call them again (of course because they don't have the decency to call a customer when they don't keep their promises) and now they just told me that they don't see my tires coming in any time soon. No Call, No Heads-up, No consideration.

They strung me along since July 22 and now after all that I had to cancel my order because it'll be snowing before I would be able to get them (if they ever come in!). Now I'm left to find a new set of tires and everything good seems to be on backorder.

I know there's always debates over the quality of retread tires and I can't say anything about that since I never got them. But, what I can comment on is TREADWRIGHT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS! And that's definitely enough to keep me rolling on fresh new tires from here on out.

also didn't you go with the pizza cutters this time? 255 is kind of an odd size, still though a freaking phone call doesnt hurt does it?

That does suck. Mine were in stock so I can't really defend them for their customer service. Hope you find a suitable alternative.

Brian- not sure of your budget but Discount Tires, Custom Wheels, Rims, Goodyear, Michelin, Cooper Tires has the KM2's in stock at $181 a piece for the 255/85. Suprisingly the Maxxis bighorns are more expensive. You can pick them up at the Cerritos warehouse and not pay shipping.

Damn that's discouraging to hear. Funny thing is, in all my research I heard that their customer service was outstanding. I was really looking forward to your review. Good luck with your tire search now.

The size I ordered was 315/75/16s (I'm moving up to 35s!). That shouldn't have been a hard size to get for them. If Treadwright would have even offered me a 10% discount to wait another week or 2, I would have taken them up on it, but it pissed me off that they offered me nothing after stringing me along for 11 weeks. I guess they don't realized that an unsatisfied customer can trun a lot of people away from them.

thats a great price Mike, But I know he was planning on 315's And 315 Km2's are almost double that.

I found a good deal on some cooper stt 315/75r16. They were about $960 for 4 after tax. I know thats what ill probably buy this winter. 315's are super expensive

Found this just now and it made me laugh a little. It was from a BFG or Treadwright thread from February.

I don't have TWs so I can't say my opinions are 100% truth, but as far as off roading with re-treads goes, TWs own site says not to air their re-treads down. I'm sure that's because the tread can separate from the rest of the tire when it has low pressure and the rubber is being pulled, smashed, folded, etc.. against rocks and other obstacles. Re-treads also ring my common sense alarm...
Ever seen a nice, perfect strip of tire tread just laying on the freeway? Yup, that's what re-treads can do - especially on hot days. Now I don't know if that's common with TWs in particular, but I'll stick to normal tires personally.

Nothing wrong with changing ones mind or perspective on anything , I have a saying , that my greatest ability in life is the ability to be wrong , and that could go for anybody , I don't care how long you've been doing something, what sort of letters you have after your name or if people call you an expert , you can still be wrong, and with that in mind gives you the chance to grow and learn from it, I know I've been there, done something for years until I found a better way, point is this is some funny **** right here but shouldn't hold out against him , brain knows which way up is, lol

Lol, that made me laugh too. Don't worry, I'm a good sport. But, I'll try to explain the change in my opinion on TW since February..

I called TW in July right before I ordered the tires and hit them with those exact questions. The manager said they have to put the "air down warning" on their website, but he assured me that TWs were no more likely to have problems running them aired down than any other new tire out there. And in fact all manufacturers recommend not running their tires below a reasonable on road psi of around 35.

He also explained the vulcanization process to me and that it was the same way new tire's tread was attached. He assuered me that the retreads I see laying on the side of the road were not made in the same way that TWs are.

I also have a friend John who's a member on here and he has had TWs for over a year now on his DD. I asked him about them (after I wrote that earlier quoted statement) and he told me that he was very happy with them and they performed just like normal tires.

TWs might be great, they might not be, I dunno. But I don't care anymore because I don't like being strung along by companies. I'll just take my business elsewhere. Maybe I'l bring a few along with me that were on the fence about this company.

I wouldn't run treadwrights anyway man. My buddy had a set and they wore out in 25k miles.

Damn, that sucks Brian. I haven't put any miles on mine yet (that'll change tomorrow!!) so I can't even comment on the tire quality yet. However, I got mine shipped to me a lot FASTER than they said it would be. Probably because they were 33's.....and not 35's.

I find it very hard to believe that TW has some special vulcanization method that is better than what they use on semi's. I've driven semi's for 25 years and have routinely run retreads everywhere but the steer axle. Some hold up, some don't. For every semi tread you see on the side of the road, there are a zillion more out there still in tact.

That said… I don't get that warm fuzzy feeling with retreads steering my car so you will not see any on my rig.

I'm still iffy on retreads but I would like to see somebody do a comparo test of similar new tires vs the Treadwrights on both street tires and off road tires. For now I can stomach the near $1000 I'll be paying for another set of Duratracs but I'm only 15K miles (2 years) into my current set and my truck only sees about 5000-6000 miles a year now so I hope to get another 3 winters from them easily.

Yeah, I'm sure they were taking longer because they were 35s. But all I ask for is honesty. It was a little disheartening to say the least after waiting for 11 weeks and being told a couple times throughout that wait, "Hold on just another couple weeks and we'll have them for you", and then today they say, "Sorry I don't see those coming in any time soon". Well.. why did you see them coming in in 3 weeks back in July? What changed? That's the kind of stuff that gets under my skin.

If they lived where I live, they'd understand that once November hits, you must have good tires. That's why I was thinking way ahead and ordered my winter tires in the summer! When I told them that, they didn't bat an eye and started repeating what they already told me.

In the end, it all worked out. I went ahead and bought the Cooper Discoverer STTs that Jmoney was talking about earlier in the thread for $960 total for a set of 4 shipped. Thanks Jason, that was a really good deal. People want $12-1300 for those Coopers all day long on ebay.
