Tree Sap - How do you get the crap off!!!??

Ok, I have a pine tree in front of my house and my truck was parked underneath it. There are a couple spots where the tree sap baked onto it. I tried some GooGone and it helped a bit, but it still there on the paint. The GooGone works pretty good on the glass, but not so well on the paint.

Any suggestions?

Tree sap removal depends on what stage the sap is on your truck. If it is pretty brand new.. a simple wand wash will take it off but if the sap has had time to dry and crystalize, then you'll need to find tree sap remover at the local store. I've used "bug and tar" remover for some tree sap and it has done the job. Just remember to keep spraying and wiping. It'll take more then one try to get those stubborn sap off. Best of luck.

I did a couple of searches and people suggested Rain-X(???? ) and also to do a claying.

Some have had a chance to dry up, while others were relatively fresh. Thanks for the suggestion iForce.

I have used WD40 to remove the sap. I don't know how it works It seems to break up the wax underneath the sap. Just remember after using it the wipe down the area several times and re-wax.

I parked under a tree the other day and 3 hours later.. it was covered in sap. Kind of made the black paint metallic. I washed it the day after and all of it came off.

If you use stuff like WD40 or whatever.. please make sure you wax it right after.

I've had good luck removing sap from pine trees with rubbing alcohol. Of course, you'll have to wax the area afterwards.

Olive oil or crisco will work and be alot less harsh on your paint let it sit on the sap for a minute or two, and it should come right off.

Goo gone did the trick guys! I took an old sock and soaked the tree sap. Rubbed a little. Soaked the sap some more and repeated numerous times. The tree sap will come out, it just needs time for the Goo Gone to work in.

Either that or my old socks are magic...

Of course I washed and waxed with Meguiars Gold Class afterwards....

I didn't clay it as my arms were sore, but probably next month. I noticed that even though Goo Gone got the residue out, there is an "outline" of the sap. Hopefully claying the truck will get rid of that...

I've found that staying on top of it protectionwise, and not letting it sit too long with sap on it is the key. My friend's driveway is lined with trees and I cringe every time I have to go there, but I just wash the truck the next day when possible and the sap comes off. Now I also use the high pressure DIY wash down at the car wash cause I can't hand wash at home but I get very good results.
