Trial Edition needs bigger tires.

anyone have recommendations? Looking for more aggressive looks. Possibly wider. 285s maybe? Something that is going to be good on street and trails. Does this exist?

You can not go wrong with BFG All-terrains unless you are in a lot of mud. In the case use BFG mud terrain km2 tires.
 
My Duratracs have been performing above my expectations and they look good and don't cost an arm and a leg and not everybody has them. This is the first tire I've owned that draws attention from people in parking lots and at traffic lights.
 
The MTRs won't be that good on the road.

There's basically the big three for this category: Nitto Terragrapplers, BFG KOs, and Goodyear Duratrac.
 
if you are going to a 285, you are also most likely going up an inch in height along with almost another inch wider. the stock tires are considered 32's on the 5th gen, i'm guessing you would need a small lift and wheel spacers (or different rims) to fit 285's. i guess time will tell what is required to run 285's on the 5th gen.

if you are looking for a serious off-road tire, but great on-road manners and easy to balance, take a look at the Toyo MT's.

gotcha. Maybe 275x70 x 17 would work better.

i will look into the toyos.

I've read good things about the duratracs on Fj fourm. I will look into them. i like how the tread comes around the sides. looks aggressive. How are they on highway and road?
 
The Duratracs are pretty sound on the hwy and are fine over expansion joints at 80mph with no sidewall squirm and snow traction is very good and good enough i can drive in 2wd a fair amount of the time on snow packed roads. The question is how they are going to wear but they do have a 40k tread wear warranty and if I get at least 40k I'll be happy as I got 45k out of my TerraGrapplers and the TGs were a tad better on the street but the GYs are a bit better in the snow.

those look great. what size are those?
 
So, if the rest of you are anything like me, you're probably reluctant to spend another thousand dollars on better tires after just purchasing a brand new truck with brand new tires.

My Trail Ed. came with the Bridgestone Dueller H/Ts. I'd much rather mount a set of Revos, DuraTracs, Grapplers or A/T KOs on there, but man, I feel it's too soon.

That being said, who here has actually upgraded thier tires already? What brand/model did you go with, and what's the largest size that will fit on a stock Trail Edition without rubbing?

I upgraded to 275/70/17's BFG AT KO's and Discount Tire gave me $75 a piece for my Bridgestone Duelers as trade with 300 miles on them.And those are as big as you can go without trimming.

nice so if i can ask how much did those end up costing. How do you trade them in?

you upgraded to the 275/70/17's BFGs and had no rubbing without wheelspacers etc.? just curious. thanks!
