Triangle 4Runners (DURHAM, CHAPEL HILL, RALEIGH, Cary, Apex)

Ok, I thought that I would put out a thread that would cater to only the triangle (RTP) 4runners (not crapping on the Raleigh, N.C. one at all just widening the scale).

Would like to have some mets and maybe find some 'wheeling' trails if at all possible.

I have spoke to some local 4wheelers and it was worded to me that due to the resent development in the triangle we are losing lots of our trailing fun. So, maybe we can pull together and share some off road, wheeling, and mudding trails. Those that are welling to release those secrets and just possibly meet up as well (one a month) this would be great. If this all sounds all sounds good, then this thread will serve this great purpose (meet, share, get dirty, eat).:dancin:

There are a few places that I will check out tomorrow in North Durham and Northwest Raleigh, I will let you know what I find once i have scoped them out.

I live near 55 and 54 on the edge of RTP. What color are you? I am Barcelona red. Most of my off roading is going on Boy Scout and American Heritage girl camp outs.

So I have done some scouting and it turns out that one of the pieces of land is owned by the state. There are no trespassing signs and there are lots of tracks which appear to be ATV's and some massive 44' tire marks. So someone is holding out and not telling people of this gem for good reason lol. The terrain is rough. I would say that I was able to find a path that was a Class 5 even Class 6. Again, I was only surveying the land and did about a 6-8 mile hike to do this without truck (sadly).

Either way, I am looking to get some more information on being on property from the state. Additionally, the other property is owned by a construction company that I am conversing with to see if there are any plans in order and if it is possible to have permission to be on property. All looking promising for Raleigh to have somewhere close for us to test the limits/camp/hang.

From hiking, I can tell that there are others that know about this land from the litter (sadly) but only fun until some s#it happens. Ill keep you posted. If anyone has information on places or believe of a place that may be a great gem pm me or post here. Ill keep you all posted.
 
Haven't done any off-roading but I'm in the durham area and am interested in future meet ups, questions, etc. Metallic grey '11 w roof rack that has lots of bumper stickers.

Sounds awesome hoping to get something going in the area I think it would be cool.

I think a Meetup at the Morrisville cars and coffee could be a good start, maybe?...

Sunfire Red 97 here. Live in Durham and work in RTP. There are a lot of 4runners in the area. I think someone mentioned in another thread there is a Facebook group but I'm not on Facebook. I'd be interested in a meetuo

Lol yes neither am I on the FB, not my thing... it is true that there are tons of 4runners around in the area. There are 6 in my community alone. The Morrisville cars and coffee meet up I think would be a good place to start at least.

Ok so i have found a piece of land that is privately owned but it is owned by a foundation/trust (Charles Russell Wellons Foundation). Looking for ideas on how to approach this to make it appetizing to the owners of this foundation/trust. There are people that seem to already use the land for some off-roading (ILLEGALLY). Now it doesn't seem that the land is going to be developed due to the nature of the cost to level for buildings.

So I am just looking to get some assistance in being pointed in the right direction to get a proposal compiled for the owners. Anyone that has interest in this or know of others that can be of assistance, this would be great. Please pm me or post here. This would be good to have a local area to do some off-roading and some camping coupled with some 4runner/fj/tacoma meet ups.

It has been a long traveling summer but looking to get back into it and really would be nice to meet up with some fellow 4Runner peeps. How likely would it be for us to have a meet up next Month?....
