So I plan on surprising the girlfriend with a trip to Niagara Falls. Wondering if anyone has any insight on the best place to stay, best deals ,best things to do etc. Also which side is better to stay (USA or Canada) ? plan on going the last weekend in march and staying for two nights. I don't have a ton of money since I'm a graduate student but i still want to do something special for her. So if anyone has any input i greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi,

from what I've seen and heard, the Canadian side is by far the more interesting. We have a much better view of the falls.

And Clifton Hill is where you'll probably spend a good amount of your time given all the attractions it has.

But if you search around, there may be a tonne of wineries open too.

There's also a zoo nearby, but at this time of the year it's probably closed.

Lastly, (again if it was just a little later in the season) you'd have Marineland attractions and rides to visit too.

Good luck and have fun!

awesome thanks for all that info.
do you think the prices will go down if i wait until closer to the date because its not the busy season now we changed it to the 23rd?

Not sure? I would tend to believe that off season prices would be cheaper, but as time goes on we are getting closer and closer to in season....so I would guess no but can't say I know for a fact.

If you're looking for a deal best bet would be to hit up some of the online discount sites(like redflagdeals.com or groupon.com etc...) and try your luck there. My family got a wicked deal to a bunch of Niagara area places on Groupon a few years back, saved a bundle. Worth looking anyway.

Good luck.

The Canadian side will have better views for sure, as the falls are on the US side. I was there in August, I went to the US side on my way back from Canada. It's very touristy. And if you like Indian food, there's more Indian places than you can imagine.

I think they do fireworks over the falls during the summer on Friday nights or something like that. Not sure on places to stay, we only stopped in for a few hours. The US side of the city right around the falls wasn't as clean or nice as I was expecting.

See both sides if you can. The Canadian side has a great view but it's across the way. The US side has a better park and you can walk right up to the falks and basically look over in several areas. Go to Goat Island and walk around. One of the most famous restaurants is the Como for Italian and elsewhere you can get the best pizza and wings Buffalo has to offer. Ventrys has a nice new sit down restaurant and Mister B's has the best wings imo. Also nearby is the Niagara wine trail witb lots of wineries. I would highly recommend going in season sometime and do the cave of the winds and the maid of the mist. Do the cave of the winds at night, you walk right up to the base of thr
E falls and literally have the falls flow on you.

Shop around for a hotel package that includes hotel+casino+food vouchers+admission to attractions (comedy clubs/water parks) at restaurants.
Easy way to save a few bucks.

Great wolf lodge is a decent time, even for adults!

The Keg (steakhouse) in Niagara Falls, ON has a great view of the falls if you want to go for a nice dinner. The Keg is a higher-end chain like restaurant but it is good quality. It's not an Applebee's or Outback... much better.

Maid of the Mist is pretty cool but it might be cold and not available in March?
