Trouble finding a TE without KDSS

Ok, so I really want a non-KDSS, non-NAV trail edition. My dealer is telling me the only way to get that is to special order one with a lead time of 120days minimum… From reading on this forum it seems as though people are finding TE’s in this configuration in a much shorter time frame. Is my dealer just BS’ing me?

Where are you located?

I'm in Atlanta and there's a dealer here with 4 2010 TE's without KDSS (they've been sitting on the lot now for 2+ months). They have one in silver, one in gray and two in black. There's a couple of other dealers in the area each with 1-2 TE's on the lot, all without KDSS. At any rate, send me a PM and I can forward contact info.
 
Yup....def a line of BS. Mine is a non-KDSS/non-Nav TE (would have liked the KDSS looking back). They tried to give me a line of BS about just getting the color I wanted and having to special order it blah blah blah. The bottom line is they want you to take what they have on thier lot or what one of their brother dealers has (that they normally do dealer trades with), so they will tell you whatever they can to discourage you to just take what they have. IMO this is a big purchase for most people and you should make sure you get what you want, not whet they want. Def check with other dealers and try online buying options as well...

Good luck and good choice on the TE, I absolutely love my truck. My only regret is not getting the KDSS, but that is because the dealer BS'd me and said I could only get it with Nav.
 
There are definitely non-KDSS/Non-Nav TEs out there. I know Atlanta Georgia has a couple. I had to special order a Silver TE with KDSS/Nav...but the price is right =)
 
When I got mine, I would only buy a new Trail with KDSS. When I called up Autoland, the "Auto Broker" company for my Credit Union, I told him what I wanted, what features, colors, etc. He called me back an hour later and said there are currently non in the region with what I want but there are two that are on a boat in transit. He got my credit card number just in case the receiving dealer wanted a deposit from me, which in the end they didn't and They finally delivered it to me on that Tuesday.

Definitively call multiple dealers, check online sites as well. Finding one without KDSS and Nav shouldn't be as difficult as the dealer is making it,,, although the local dealer I first talked to about getting a Trail Edition with KDSS finally found one after 2 months of me owning mine already.

Edit: Also, you guys should edit your profile and add your location, then readers can see where you are and they can even do some research to help out.

Inventory is brought in by regions with Toyota, so one region may bring in different configurations that another. Its very possible its more available in some parts of the country than others.
 
Thanks for the info. Yes indeed it does seem that the Midwest does not see very many trail editions at all. 10 currently slated for the region apparently. I did find some on the lot in Atlanta and requested a quote. The logistics of actually getting one of those to MN may just push me to get one of the non-nav KDSS’s that are floating around the Midwest though.

get the non nav with kdss. you won't regret it. you can always add nav later, not so with kdss.:driving:
 
Doesn't the KDSS help the trail behave better on the road too? I've heard a lot of people on this forum wish they would have gotten it after purchase. You might want to take another look at this decision.
 
I'm sure you've done this, but sometimes internet departments have access to the dealer locators and are easier to get vehicles locations out of than some sales departments...

Shoot out some internet inquiries to local dealers and see if anyone comes up with one, might be a few hiding around the Midwest that don't show on Toyotas sites. The Gulf States and Southeast Toyota dealers do show all inventory in region, but the Midwest will not.

Good luck. I do agree I would go with KDSS if your going Trail.

Nothing :-) Just that I would probably never use it to its fullest potential and for the cost I thought I would at least see if I could get it without. Not looking like that is the case without traveling a long way to get it so I will probably end up with it by default. Sounds like it has a secondary effect of firming up the on road ride so I may like it in the end.
 
Just go with KDSS, you'll never look back and you will never regret it!!

I spent a lot of time and money trying to get the best of both worlds with my 2008 Tacoma, great on road stability and great off road flexibility. It's close to impossible to accomplish with these IFS rigs. I decided to remove the stock front swaybar to get great off road comfort and travel, but that made my on road daily driving a bit more dangerous. I'd get a lot of body sway on curves and I was afraid what might happen in an accident/quick reflex situation.

Once I found out KDSS was offered on these Trail Edition's, I was all over it!! I have never looked back since. My 4Runner in both stock and lifted form handles awesome both on and off road!!
 
I guess I'll throw my thought process into the ring...

Owner of a 2010 TE w/out KDSS - at the time I purchased my 4Runner I had heard horror stories of lifting KDSS equipped Land Cruisers, at the time no one had lifted their TE yet. Anyway, a TE finally shows up at the dealer and in the color I wanted, it didn't have KDSS so I figured what the hell, I liked the way it drove and handled and because I wanted to lift it in the future figured it wouldn't make that much of a difference anyway.

Do I regret it? Not really - but I've never driven a KDSS equipped Trail, and probably won't in fear of buyers remorse, haha.

So IMO test drive whatever you can get your hands on - if you don't mind the way it handles on the road as is, and you don't think you'll require a lot from the stock suspension off-road then buy your non-KDSS TE, save a few bucks, and put the $$ towards the mod bug that will inevitably bite.

Ben, KDSS actually helps on-road performance and you would be using it all of the time because it is passive. You will notice the difference going fast around bends.
 
After doing some more checking today it really looks like I don't have a choice. KDSS it is if I don't want to ship a vehicle across country or wait a long time to order one.

Glad it is this way I guess then not being able to KDSS and really wanting it! I think I will appreciate the more responsive handeling that I did notice on my test drive. Now to figure out what color... Mag Gray, Silver, or Black....
