Trouble Shifting between 4H,2H,4L on Trail Edition

Am I lame or is there a knack to switching between the differentials on the 2014 Trail Edition? Test drove it and got thrown by how hard it was. Pushed me back to lean to the base SR5. Was in park when doing it. Should I have been in Neutral? Salesman was pretty clueless too.

shifting into/out of H4 can be done anytime under 55 (? read the manual for the exact speed). In fact, I suspect you had trouble precisely because you weren't moving. For L4, stop and put the transmission into neutral before shifting in or out.

Wife made me get the SR5

Thanks for the great advice. Sad the salesman, who was a really good guy, didn't have a little more product knowledge, but it worked out, cause ended up with SR5 which suits our life style better (primarily towing and getting around in the winter, keeping the grand babies safe) put leather and Homelink on custom for the same dough.

I have NEVER been to a dealership where the sales rep knew more about the vehicle than I did. I find it very irritating when I ask questions about the vehicle and the rep has to figure it out rather than just know. Sorry, this post prompted me to vent a little.

you would think someone working at a toyota dealer would know and study up on toyotas. If i ran a dealership i would have written tests each salesman would need to take and pass on a regular basis... If you fail the test you work the front desk saying hello welcome to _____toyota...

LOL .... A few days ago I went into a Nissan dealership and one of the guys was showing me the Nissan GTR R35. Well he said not only was it turbocharged, but it was ALSO Supercharged as well... I faced palmed and walked away..

So I know where you guys are coming from...
