Troubleshooting trailer running light problem

My trailer running lights aren't working when connected to my rig, via what I believe is a stock 4-way flat connection (signal & brake lights are good).

The running lights work normally when trailer's connected to another vehicle. Nothing seems to be out of order with the runner connector itself- clean, everything intact.

I don't have a manual, so I'm not sure which fuses or relays at the main box I should be checking. I also don't see anything at the main box labeled "Trailer Tail" like people have mentioned in other posts.

If the fuses check out, maybe take a look at the "trailer wire converter" in the rear cargo area?

Have you stuck in one of those tester plugs that simulate a trailer and light up? DO the lights work on the 4runner? You could trace that wire back to where it connects with the lights on the 4runner.

The tester shows no power to "Tail" aka running lights, brown wire.

Yes, all the lights work on the 4runner.

So Im guessing the wiring goes to this "trailer wire converter" in the rear I'll start there and see if maybe an inline fuse or something. Either way I think i should try to find out what fuses to check at main box still. Apparently if u plug in 4-way with lights already on it can blow one of the main fuses. Thanks for response.

As far as I know all of the Toyota's use a converter for trailer lights. It is common for the converter wiring to be spliced into the stock truck tail light harness. One of the splices has probably failed. Trace the wiring out. The converter is usually a small black sealed box.

I've had TWO stock converters fail on me. I now have an aftermarket one from www.etrailer.com (can't remember which brand). Just buy a new one, it will be plug-n-play.

If you have the stock harness that bolts to the bottom of the hitch, you may want to splice that part of the stock (port installed) harness to the aftermarket one.

Hey guys, I’m having a similar issue.
On my camper I get turn signals and brake lights but no running lights.
I had to change out the trailer connector to the truck because a pin pulled out.
I am stumped as to where to look to fix this.
Truck works fine with uhaul trailers.
Now what?
