Ok, so I know FoneRunner and LINY4runner have already done this, but I ran into some problems.
I dont want anyone else having these problems so heres the deal.
After I blew my spider gears in my front diff, I decided I wanted to go the same route as FoneRunner and LINY.
I started looking at lockers and decided on the same Detroit/Eaton Tru-Trac LSD that they had. I never saw them post any part #'s so I went to 4wheelparts (dont use them EVER) and then SummitRacing.com and used their vehicle selectors to choose the right locker. Both came up with the same part # DTL-911A445
I have since found out that almost every supplier when looking in their system will give you DTL-911A445, (at least initially) some suppliers upon looking have notes somewhere in their system alerting them of the change but very few mentioned anything.
This is incorrect. DTL-911A445 is for the 85-95 4 cyl. There is still confusion as to whether that part # will work with straight axle or only with IFS.
The correct part # for the 96-up V6 WAS DTL-911A342 which has since been replaced with DTL-911A644... This is part # you want to order for the V6 3rd Gen.
The guys at East Coast Gear Supply sell the correct part for 470$
4wheel parts charges 514$ and the SummitRacing.com quoted me 508$
It sounds like Eaton/Detroit mixed up the part #'s when giving them to all their distributers.
Even ECGS' supplier has the wrong part # listed for the V6 3rd gens.
luckily, Ryan and Chase from ECGS knew the correct part # in their head.
ECGS website does not currently list this part, but if you want a Trutrac LSD, I highly recommend you call them and get this part from them along with the Master Rebuild kits and any other gears you might be doing in the process... If I had ordered everything from them from the start i would have been done with this a month ago.
