Truck Claws vs. Maxtrax

Anyone bought or heard of Truck Claws?

If these are amazing, seems like they could be the perfect emergency backup to get out of a bind. They seem pretty amazing, and can save a lot of overkill recovery preparation.

Have this and maxtrax around would definitely bring a peace of mind.

It's definitely an interesting concept. Those extenders look like they could very easily become projectiles, or create damage using lateral support planks as shown. I'd also be interested to hear someone's firsthand experience with them.

keep a ratchet strap in your recovery bag (helps holding suspension up if you need to change a tire or something) then you can just ratchet a stick to your tire

I'd opt for low air pressure first. That's the trick they're using to make it look like it's really stuck - high tire pressure.

Also - what about tire clearance? I don't even have enough for regular tire chains.

I think the cheapo zip tie ones might work really well in snow on a passenger car type situation. I'm not sure they'd offer much for a 4runner with offroad tires, but I have seriously thought about tossing a set in my wife's car. You can actually do pretty well with a piece of rope if you simply weave it through a few times for the same effect. Half a dozen soft shackles could work well too. They're dirt cheap to make if you buy a length of rope.
