sometimes when i try and start my truck i get nothing just dead. or sometimes its sounds like its struggling to turn over. other times it starts right up no problem. battery and alternator are new. could my remote starter be affecting this.

it's possible...try and narrow down the circumstances when the no-start happens. see if you can duplicate it. thats your first step to diagnosing it.

I have been having the same problem and have been told by many a sources that the contacts in the starter go bad sometimes and causes the issue. I was told I had two choices, I could pull starter have checked out and new contacts put in or just buy new starter and have it replaced.

rayny1014 is correct, its the contatcts on the starter. and they are very cheap. you can get all 3 for 10 bucks.

Just had the same problem fixed...had to take my '97 to the dealer after experiencing the same problems..i also have a remote start

dealer said they could not diagnose the problem but I had the starter replaced anyways..been working 100% since replaced with no problems.

all toyotas seem to have the problem ..... first the contacts go, and eventually the wire itself will start to get corroded and limit amperage to the starter and cause problems. Kind of a curse of reliablity, most other brands would have had the starter fail completely long before the contacts could ever wear out.
