Trunk door squeak

I just installed a Baja Rack ladder on my trunk and now it sounds like the piston/hinge is squeaking. I knew there would be added weight (17 lbs), but did not think that i would need to replace the trunk hinges.

Anyone else run into this? Any solutions - maybe all it needs is some good ol' WD40.

My trunk door decided to squeak so I sprayed some WD-40 on it and its back to normal :clap2:

Hasn't squeaked for a couple months now.

Try this easy fix - clean and then put grease on the latching mechanism and on the catch. Chased a hatch squeak for a long time on my 4th gen and that did the trick. It'll take you 60 seconds to do.

At least one of the back ladder suppliers offer extra heavy duty struts to account for the increased weight. I don't remember which one. Perhaps adding those may help the problem.
