Trunk Struts

Anyone think these trunk struts would work for our 4Runners?

They are stated to work. If so, we would save mega-bucks.

don't buy the suggested replacements.... the hatch is WAY too heavy for them.

Get a next size up that can lift a few more pounds.


The OEM ones are just a tad bit too small, they lift the hatch from being closed to being 85% open- where you have to push it the rest of the way.

I will be sending my struts to StrutWise. The guy's name is Frank and a very good guy to work with. He told me that the turn around time is pretty quick too. Anyway, here is more info and e-mail him if you have any questions. I think he said it was $40 or $45 per strut. I also asked him to make mines stronger since the OEM's are too weak for the lift gate. People in colder regions will notice even more. Here is the webiste.

I noticed that his company is located in Surrey B.C.

Im not sure if Im even willing to pay $90 for them to be ideal again. They really are not bad enough for me to make this move yet.

Hard to believe the OEM struts are to weak.

Yea the price is not that great but I wanted to keep it OEM and I figure that if i get another set of OEM struts, they will go out again. I decided to keep mine but just make them stronger so that they will last me for a long long time. Also, the cheapest OEM I was able to find was $126 EACH. So to me, $90 isn't that bad to keep it OEM.

They also have standard specs and cold specs, but they are the same price. I guess the cold specs are for people that go through harsh winters and below freezing temps.

I don't care that I have to push the hatch up. As long as the struts hold it up.

I didn't care either until I was unloading and the lift gate came down a couple of inches and BAM hit my head
That was the last straw and I knew I had to do something about it.
