trusted shops in NYC

Hey everyone.

3 weekends with car on the lift, countless hours reading and youtubing. I think it is fair to admit, I've done my best with trying to get the rear brakes fixed.

I've successfully fixed parking brake myself, probably seated brakes retaining clips etc. I'm happy with what I accomplished. Now that I noticed the caliper is leaking, weather is getting cold I'm not sure if I can properly close up the car.

Need outside help, I'm wondering does anyone here know of a trusted shop in the NYC area to help me?

Thanks!

If you're willing to travel to Yonkers, American tire on McLean ave is pretty good. They work on modded trucks all the time, so they actually know what they're doing.
They're located at 689 McLean Ave, Yonkers, NY 10704
Phone number is (914) 969-7987, call and ask to talk to Russ Jr.

As an added bonus, once you're done, Irish Yonkers is just half a mile further down the street, so you can get some good beer and food in the process

there is a guy out in the bronx that does a lot of land cruisers. i remember my friend used to go to him with his 6 inch lifted cruiser. I will ask him about it, maybe you can go there since you in the bx

did you find out his info?

I don't do any of my work when i'm in the city, Nowhere to work on my truck down here. But i do know these spanish guys who have a good shop in brooklyn that i used to take my infiniti to but they will literally work on anything. I don't know if that's to far for you but i can give you the info if you want?

There is also a shop in the bronx that works on a lot of built trucks that my buddy steered me towards specifically to get a body mount chop but i'm sure they do other stuff as well. The name of the shop is called Fieldstone Automotive

Curious... He had no issue when I asked him if he would replace all my suspension bushings (control arms). :noidea:

how much did that cost you if you dont mind me asking? We can take it over PM if its easier. He did said he usually forwards people to this guy near cross county. He gave me his number and he said to come in on monday. But i work mondays :(.

Fieldstone Automotive is actually 5 min from me. How were they? I might go bring the car over on Saturday. But i feel like most shops don't like you to bring a diagnose car on their busy Saturdays.

I haven't actually been there they were just recommended to my by a friend of mine for a body mount chop but i haven't gotten it done yet. According to my friend they're a good shop.

I didn't actually get a quote as I'm planning on having it done after the winter.

i asked my friend about that spot in the BX but he don't remember the name nor where it was. i went there once but that was like 6 years ago when he had his 7-9 inch lifted land cruiser. sorry can't be any help

I know this isn't that close to you, but I went to HighBloom auto in Nutley NJ when I lived in Queens. He was a highly recommended Volvo mechanic from the Volvo boards and very awesome guy. I know a 4runner isn't a Volvo but would trust him with anything. I would call him up and see what he can do for you.

I thought about this more last night. There a lot of shops in the that area, I've lived in the area all my life, so has my dad and we generally try to avoid the shops there as they pretty sketchy and quality is usually not so good.

this is not to say every shop is bad, and not saying this one is either. it may very well be. just giving you my past experience in the area. But I will give them a call or bring the car there soon and see what they have to say, and what they will quote me. I can tell you every time we tried a shop in this area we are dumbfounded on how easy they can mess up a simple job.
