Hey all,

Can you guys try the search engine on this forum? Has it improved or about the same (in effectiveness)???

I wish I could be more positive, but it didn't seem to work that much differently. Good to see the effort put forth at least!
 
I guess its a little better. Im getting some better results. But it still bugs me that your word has to be at least four characters. I tried to search for VHT window tint and it wouldn't let me cause VHT isn't at least 4 characters. Is there any way to change that?

:iagree: when I was searching for CB options I couldn't search for it becausr of the word limit.

I can change it to 3 words. You can use "VHT*" instead of just "VHT".

Same thing with CB...use "CB*"

Good to know. I didn't know about that tip. With so many acronyms and abbreviation's on this site, it is sometimes hard to search for thing like VSC, OME, etc. I'll try using the * to fill in the void.
 
When I search "mail order brides" nothing showed up.:mad:


ok , seriously ... changing that to 3 characters is nice , thanks Thai. It will be easier for you to search"BFG".......lol.
 
Just bringing this back up because over the past few months I've used the site's search feature without any issues. Also I see a lot of new threads that must have at least a dozen others on the exact same issue. Has anyone had any issues with search or was it just abandoned?
 
No I have been reminding people to use the Search function a lot lately and noticed the same thing as you 004. Sometimes it doesnt give the results though so I think there is a glich somewhere though.
 
Ok. I'm used to trying multiple search methods to get better results so maybe that's why I have no issues. On a similar note, Google has gotten pretty bad with returning generic results so what used to be 1 search is now 3. It's still way better than Yahoo and Bing is nothing special.
 
Works about as well as any other vBulletin based board I've used, which is to say it's about as good as can be expected. I have noticed searches here tend to be pretty slow. Not complaining, just observing.

The biggest limitation to me still seems to be the one mentioned above, the 3-character minimum for search terms. Haven't tried the hack mentioned by Thai, I'll have to remember that.

Oh, and for anybody that doesn't know, if you'd like to search the forum using Google, you can do it from the Google home page by entering your search terms then using the site:http://www.toyota-4runner.org/general-discussions/ (or the appropriate subforum URL) qualifier. I've found that workaround to be useful on other forums.
