Trying not to get arrested!

Ok, so it's definitely possible to be a little _too_ into these trucks.

Whenever I own a vehicle, I usually instantly start to develop a sense of kinship with other owners of the same vehicle (even if they don't). So the fact that immediately upon acquiring my new 2004 Limited I came across this site only made things worse in that regard.

(I've actually started engaging people in conversations randomly on the street.)

Anyway, first thing I did was to immediately start noticing all of the different 4Runners on the road around me, especially the older ones. I think its pretty neat that there are so many 'Runners with 8 zillion miles on them still running around.

So I'm walking into Target the other day, and I see in the parking lot a 1st Gen 4Runner. So I go have a look. I'm looking all around the thing. I notice it's an '87, and I'm examining it for about a good 5 minutes. Then I start to walk into the store.

Next thing I know a guy comes rushing out to his 4Runner. So I ask him if it's his and he says yes, so we start talking. Turns out he's a security guy in the store and the whole time he's watching me on the security camera staring at his truck. So he starts wondering what the f-- I'm doing with his truck.

We ended up having a nice chat, but I suppose you can get yourself into trouble if you show too much interest in someone else's truck!

Yup, you're hooked.

It's also like an unwritten rule that 4Runner owners notice each other when passing. Almost hacks you off when you see other 4Runner owners that have no clue about the "rule" and have no idea that they're driving anything other than some vehicle with 4 tires.

I've done the same thing with other peoples rigs. Really makes them nervous when you park next to them and take pics of BOTH together for comparison.

You're 100% correct on that. I never loved a vehicle as much as this one, and i def never did a forum before either. I have had broncos grand cherokees and a xterra. But i never had love like this.

Oh, and this forum made me feel alot better about the fact that i was developing a problem. Looks like everyone has one here.

I actually tripped on a curb doing that once!! My Dad was watching the whole thing and almost died laughing when I hit the deck lol

Pretty sad state of affairs, but at least I'm not the only one

Yeah i think thats just kinda something that we do. B/c now that i have my 4th gen i ALWAYS am looking around and see SO many others out there, i am always trying to see if anyones is a cool as mine or what mods they have and such. I especially like seeing the older ones all tricked out. There is this custom show one w/ a custom paint and and 24's fully shaved no handels ive been tyring to get a pic but ive never seen it parked... just driving. So dont worry its not just you its obviusly everyone of us.

At least I don't feel so stupid. Here's my little incident. I parked my truck at the school lot, which was on a steep hill. I was looking back to admire my truck, which was parked next to another 4th gen silver sport. Let's just say there was snow/ice coating the hill and I wasn't watching where I was going (don't have eyes behind my head). I slid down the hill on my butt, looking like a total fool. To make it worse, all of my friends saw what happened and everybody passing by.

Yup, me too! I stare at mine, think of things to do with/to it and I check out every other 'Runner I pass. A few of us park by each other at church even.

Hi name is Steve and well I’m a freak too. I wash mine in the winter using a hot water supply from my house. I installed my Scion HU while it was 16 degrees F outside in my driveway. I have changed my transmission fluid three times. Once I over filled it and ran a piece of small diameter tubing down the fill tube to siphon some out. And I stare at her as if she is a porn star. My best friend owns a new Tundra. So when he comes over, my wife leaves the room because we do not speak her language. But I do not think I have a problem. I can stop myself anytime.

I know you may think that you can stop anytime, but unless you admit you have a problem you can't fix it brudda. I think what we need is a good clensing of our minds. What that would entail is a good meet with some beer chips and pornstars.

I know this is a scary idea, but i think that it is necessary to ensure sanity

Yea, I've got the same OCD that everyone else seems to have. Look at my ride... look at it again. Just makin' sure he's far enough away from everyone else so that I don't get any door dings. Making sure everything is going to be OK while I'm gone.

Oh and I click the lock at least 2 times... just to be sure, cuz I'm not 100% sure that I really locked it the first time
