trying to find the right combo

We just got our 2011 4runner sr5 4wd yesterday. No xreas. I was thinking about doing the bilstein 5100's on whatever setting it takes to level it, probably the usual 3rd. The thing I am unsure about is wheels and tires. What I have in mind is MOTO metal 961 18x9s in black with 275/65r18 Goodyear duratracs. Would this be a good combo with no issues and minimal or no rubbing?

Thanks guys.

Depends on backspacing. Stock is 4.5. Stay as close to that as possible. You'll find a lot more info by searching the forum. Look at lifted pics, etc to see what other people are using. Also search under 5100s.

I have done all of the above. I will stick to the 4.5" backspacing and 00" offset rule. From what I have gathered is that the people with the 17x8" rims dont seem to have wheelwell rubbing issues, but the people with the 18x9's and 17x9's experience this much more often. I was attempting to help this by going with the 275/65r18 vs the 285/65r18 since pretty much every wheel my wife and I seem to like is of the 9" variety... this can't be THAT HARD :toilet:

I was faced with backspacing questions and wheel fit as well.

Heres a link to the tread I asked a question in. Look at the graph that Harper7 posted.

Negative offset wheels w/ 285s

Also... I'm currently running 0 offset wheels 18x9. But if i were to do it again, I'd go with a -12. I have rubbing with my 285s but it could easily be remedied by fixing the fender area.

My 17x9's with 285/70/17's have the -12 offset, I have a little front fender rubbing but after pulling it forward it barely touches fully locked in reverse, I don't hear any rub at all driving forward.

Okay, I think i was origionally confused about a few things. It is clearer now. Either maintain the factory 4.5" backspacing or get -12 offset in a 9" wheel which is effectively the same difference. So if I maintain this with the bilstein 1.75 front lift and 275/65r18 tires I should be gravy..yes?

Thank you. I can deal with minimal fender well rubbing if it arrises. Just didn't want control arm rubbing or alignment issues...or getting into the body mount.

With a 9" wheel you need a -12 offset to have the factory backspace. That will not rub your UCA and with 275's with a 1.75 lift you shouldn't have to worry about too much rubbing.

Duratracs are really knobby. I think the 275's are on the big side (compared to other tires of the same specs). If you're really concerned about rubbing that might be an issue.

If there is some rubbing on the inner fender that is resolvable I am not concerned about it. Just trying to minimize it and still get the look I want.

Sorry for the belated post, I had issues getting the wheels...then had to find time to put the 5100's on and take it for a mount and balance. I got the wheels in the end from lsdmotorsports, they were great to deal with and had the cheapest price I could find. I set the 5100's on the 2nd notch and had a tire shop swap the springs, I have a very nice spring compressor, but it was sketch using it on this application because of coil diameter and overall spring diameter. The tires are smooth and barely louder than stock. I need to bump up the psi a bit and take them for a rebalance tomorrow. They did a road force on the hunter machine, but used the hubcentric adapter instead of the lugcentric so I am getting steering wheel shake between about 45-60mph. Will keep you posted and give a better review soon!
