Trying to get back into a 4runner

Hi All,

I use to have a 99 4runner "Highlander Edition" SR5 with grey leather interior. Bought it new right out of college. Loved it. I had to sell it for a minivan in 05 when my second son was born.

Now I'm in the market to get back into a 4runner. Probably an older one because I have around 5K to spend.

Anyways, any tips for a guy looking into the older 4runners? What to look for? Since I've been out of the "game" for a while, are there certain things that tend to be issues with the older 4runners? Thanks

Here are some pictures of my old "baby." I still miss her......

You had a pretty good looking rig...

To answer your question, things to look for are leaking rear axle seals, timing belt (if it's over 90k), and make sure to get the maintenance records to make sure that the proper maintenance was done at the right time.

Thanks. I'll look for those. I seriously doubt that with my budget I'll be able to find anything under 120K miles so I'm hoping the 90K service would have been done.

Yea, I live in Texas and don't offroad so 2wd is fine for me. I'll use it mainly to haul my bike and get groceries and the occasional camping trip with my boys. I am even contemplating getting a 4 cyl so I can save $$ on gas....
