trying to get the oil filter off

Maybe i'm dumb but I can't figure out how to get it off. The sway bar and skid plate looking piece are in the way. I could get it from above but that'll make a huge mess of oil everywhere.

Do I have to unbolt the skid plate to get it out? If so, how does it come off? I couldn't see any bolts on it on the bottom.

Skid plate comes off, 4 bolts.

two bolts in the front and rear, then you slide it forward and itll hang down or can come off. Youll have full access after that.

Yes you have to remove the skid plate, it's 4 (12mm I think) bolts on the corners. Word of advice, be careful torquing them back on, 3 of mine have sheared heads and the shanks are stuck in the frame.

I only sheared one bolt, on the back skid plate because at first it looked like it needed to come off to get the front part. I just got some clothes line and tied it up, and left the front skid plate off completely, since it never goes offroad.

The back skid doesn't have to come off FYI, there is an access hole for the drain plug.

Yeah the drain plug I found no problem, it was just getting to the oil filter. It looked like the front skid plate was under the back part but it wasn't, just looked that way to me. Not gonna worry about it, it didn't even rattle to the point I could hear it with it not tied up, but it's tied up now so it's all good. It doesn't go offroad, it's the wife's to drive the kids around in, I got it so she'd have something reliable and could get her around in a snow storm with no trouble, since I drive out of town for work I didn't want her having issues when i'm gone, not with 2 very young kids.
