Trying to increase iPod volume output

I apologize if this has been covered -- I tried searching but couldn't find anything on my question.

I often listen to my iPod through a PIE auxiliary input adapter, using the line-out signal from the bottom of my iPod rather than plugging into the headphone port. I use a headphone amplifier to further boost the volume because without it, I have to punch the volume on my car stereo (the JBL 6-CD changer) up to 50 or so to hear anything, and I worry about overworking the head unit.

I'm trying to find a way to get rid of the headphone amplifier. I found something called a line driver made by PIE on the Logjam Electronics Web site. Would this do what I want it to do? That is, would it boost the line-out signal between my iPod and the AUX-IN adapter while running off 12V power from the car battery?

hmmm...I'm surprised you have this problem....I installed the PIE in my wife's CRV and the volume level is good...I installed the DICE on my 4runner and the volume level is good...not sure whats happening w/yours...have you tried using a different ipod? could it be the settings on the ipod?

Unless there's some kind of volume-limiting setting I don't know about on my iPod, (and this is an American version, not the volume-limited European Union version), I don't think there's anything to be done with it. I'm using the line-out port, so the onboard volume control is basically bypassed. Any suggestions would be welcome.

It might be limited...my nano with the most recent firmware has a max vol control under settings (I think).
