Trying to lighten things up a bit!

Hey all,
So a while back I replaced my stock headlight bulb with a Hella bulbs from R&S Strauss. Anyways they are decently bright but they don't last very long which is very aggravating. I know the basics about not touching the bulb and such but my passenger side went out just this morning. What type of bulb would you recommend without adding any type of HID wiring kit? The Hella bulbs produced a clear white which I enjoyed but I would gladly go for an HID look as well. Any suggestions? :bravo:

I'm having good luck with PIAA's on all my trucks. you might wanna check them out. My buddie in his yukon is running silverstars and seems to like them and cost less than the PIAAs

Sylvania SilverStars or Piaa Xtreme White Plus should both have the look you want. I've heard good things about the Piaas but haven't used them myself. If you go with Sylvania then don't bother with the Ultras. I have these now and after a day there is no difference between the Ultra and the SilverStar.

It also may help if you disable the DRL's (daytime running lights), I've heard that having the lights on constantly reduces the life of aftermarket bulbs.

I had Silverstar Ultras for a year but one burnt out, no DRLs.

I have hella bulbs now with 55/100 wattage, but the headlight housing isn't really that great as it is for light projection and the bulbs I have now are yellowish... yuck.

I want a bulb with white light (to match my clear white corner bulbs) and at least a 100 watt highbeam... any suggestions? I dont want to have to pay for new bulbs every year.

Retrofit sounds dandy but not doable unless i invest in new headlights all together...

I am running the IPF Fat boys in my Jeep and they are awesome. I haven't put them in my 4Runner yet...too many other things happening lately but I will. They are a true white light and are extremely bright. Here is a link to their site if you want to check them out ARB 4x4 Accessories. I bought them from a distributor who shipped them direct to me and had them in about 2 or 3 days. Something else to consider is upgrading your wiring harness with either the one they make or making your own.

WOW man I just looked them up, they look cool!! So much light output, a 150/190 watt set of bulbs!

The wattage is so high in fact, would it be safe to run them on stock wiring?

Sylvania Silverstars. I have only gone through 2 sets since I bought my 4Runner new in 2005 and they produce a great light output.

I talked to them before I put them in my Jeep and they said they would be but recommended upgrading the wiring. These are the bulbs that I have (X4 Bulbs by IPF and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware-RH1) the ones on the website are newer. They are a world of difference.

I run Silverstar Ultras in my headlights and Hella 500's. I buy them at WalMart. Keep your receipt. If I remember right, they'll replace them for free the first few months. I have already warrantied out a set like this!

SilverStar Ultras have my vote. I only have had one go out in the last two years and I justify that because I hit a hell -a -cious ditch while playing in the snow.
Also, it is not a good idea to run higher wattage bulbs unless you install an upgraded wiring harness. Plus the higher wattage bulbs are marked "for offroad use only" meaning they are not street legal.

Does that mean it should work fine with stock harness? Man, they're 80 bucks a set but from the photos they look oh so good... and I know they're illegal btw.

Im curious of this myself. I was just looking at the PIAA Intense White bulbs and it says the output is 60/55W=135/125W. Obviously there will be more of a power demand from the battery which the alternator is going to have to make up for but is it actually safe?
