Trying to sell '08 4Runner

Hey guys,

I'm moving out of the country and need to sell my 4Runner. Wanted to get your feedback on whether you think the price (including custom upgrades) I'm asking for is reasonable. Here is the ad I've already posted:

2008 Toyota 4Runner SR5 2WD V6 - 34k miles - Galactic Grey - in excellent condition. $23000 OBO.
This is a very well maintained and cared for SUV that we need to sell because of a relocation. Non-smoker, no pets/children. Clean title.

Nooooo!! That's exactly the truck I was looking for less than 10 days ago. Why o why. But your price is very reasonable, the lowest prices I could find on similar stock runners were in the 27-29k range. Now I wish I had waited.

NM didnt see it was a 2wd. Good price anyway

After reading this thread (and now quoting myself) I got to looking at what folks said they paid back in '09 for NEW vehicles, I feel like I got screwed. But there just aren't any of what I was looking for out there any cheaper.

Did the new boxy (read:ugly, at least to me) bodystyle with no V8 raise the price of used 4runners?

Sounds a little high for a non-certified private sale vehicle. I paid $23,900 for my 2007 4wd V6 in excellent condition Toyota certified and 26,000 miles on it from a Toyota dealer here in Baltimore in January of this year.

I just ran the numbers in nadaguides.com and $23k sounds like a decent price. They listed it at $26k (clean retail).

I don't think you got screwed, the price of used cars has gone up since I bought my last one 2 years ago. I just paid $3k more for my CPO 2007 than I did for my previous 2007 that I purchased 2 years ago. And of course the 2007 was considered a much newer vehicle 2 years ago and had much fewer miles. It sucks, but that's what's out there right now.

I just pulled the Black and Galves auction prices. 21-23, so this price is very reasonable.


Also. Prices are rebounding. Price changes over the past 3 years have had more than typical factors influencing them.

Example: A 2004 runner I just bought - sold at auction for 9-11k this past 6 months. In 2009, at the peak of the economic BULLS*& and cash for clunkers, push to high MPG, sold for 6-8. That is a substantial drop.

It has now risen back up.

So. What am I saying? The unique economic factors of the past years make it totally normal to see a vehicle type/year be MORE expensive NOW than 2-3 years ago.

Market forces, plain and simple.

FYI. Toyota ditched the V8 in the runner bc it wasn't a huge selling point. I know people on this, and similar board, may bemoan the loss; but we represent a small, small minority. I have seen some data on it, and it suggests that in the 4runner style class an overwhelming majority of people are looking for a v-6.

That said. I am the proud owner of a 2004 4runner Sport V8.... and I love it.

Seems about right 23k OBO. I just bought my 07' V8 4x4 SR5 for $25k out the door, had 56k miles.

Wish It Was a V8

Nice rig. Priced reasonable, but 2WD & 6 would be an issue in some parts of the county. Check edmunds.com were they have a price estimator. Kelly Bluebook also offers an estimator, but they're estimated price is usually substantially higher.
