TSB for V6 Tacoma's Ticking

On the TTORA forum, there is a thread regarding a TSB that was issued by Toyota for the Tacoma's 4.0L V6 ticking noise problem. I am not aware that a TSB has been issued for the V6 4Runner, but the engines are essentially the same.

I notice very little ticking noise when my windows are up and I am driving. However, if I am outside the vehicle at idle, or if I drive past a wall or some type of barrier with the windows down, the ticking noise is almost embarrassing.

Perhaps the 4Runner has better sound insulation than the Tacoma, which may explain why they got the TSB and we didn't, or maybe they complained more. I am just curious whether anyone else has this "problem" and whether we should start complaining to Toyota and/or the stealers to let them know that we want the ticking TSB too.

i have a tick or more like a rattle in my driver door .. dunno if the dealer will cover it under origonal warranty

My runner ticks as well, but I wouldn't say its loud enough to be embarrassing.. I hardly notice it.

All Toyota V6's tick a little louder than their other engines. It's not a mechanical problem, and sometimes the body helps block the noise. I had it on the 3.4L 5VZ-FE, the 3.3L 3MZ-FE, and the 3.0L 1MZ-FE.

I had a jeep some years back with the inline six and that thing sounded like someone dumped a load of quarters and dimes in the crankcase from day one but it did go 150K before I sold it.

My six in my 06 runner ticks a little as well but hay the way I look at it ..........It makes allot less noise than my jeep.

Just change that oil and keep driving I say.
