Excited! So what now? Production starts then they are shipped or are we waiting until 1/31 to start production?

I posted a couple updates. But production will start early next week. It will take a few weeks to get the molds made and get all the kinks worked out of the forming process. No firm dates yet.

Looks like we are going to need someone looking out for us. I will talk to my contacts and see about pricing.

I would have to be another group buy type of deal. Where 50-100 are ordered at 1 time. Last I spoke he told me $180 each with a order of 100 upper grilles. But he said they inspect all parts as a company policy before they are given to the customer. So at least it would be a non issue on our end.

Would be awesome if we got that group buy before the covers shipped. then we could combine our orders! I'm in as well!

Most likely this is a injection part. When we do molds for Toyota we do not use mold release sprays.

If this is on most parts it looks like the mold may have had some type of texture or grain on it and the mold has gotten damaged. A repair was most likely made and either texture not fixed or Toyota approves of this minor flaw. Sometimes it’s imposible to match.

Interesting insight. Never thought of damaged tooling. If is that at least paint will be able to stick to it a little better if people decide to paint them.

I got 3 more ordered in to my dealer today and all the new ones all look like this. It's definitely a mold issue and probably not going to change no matter how many are ordered. I struck out with 0 out of 6 grilles all looking the same. Rattle can it is.

I agree. If this is how they are all turning out. If my replacement comes the same way I may just try and paint. Still not cool having to pay for something that should be a finished product.

I was thinking a light soda basting might knock down the slight imperfections.

Anyone have experience blasting plastic. Pretty sure these upper grilles are ABS.

Got some letters going. Need to get some more material and better tooling to really ramp things up on the letter. But here's a pic. Still figuring out costs. But still looking like they will be in the $30 range.

Those are looking great so far! Can't wait to see the final product combined with one of your grille covers. I will have to get in on a set of letters when you get the group buy going.

Just got my upper grille today. Same issue as yours. Looks VERY spotty on the finish, a little disappointed to say the least. Got it from Toyota parts online

Letters will be in the same group buy. And upper grille group buy is looking like a no. If this is how theyare being made no matter what then a group buy would be pointless.

How are the letters being made? Obviously the cover is a vacuum formed piece but the letters are being cast and chromed??

Cast polyurethane and then painted to match the factory color

At close range anything will have imperfections, that "T" looks great so far!
