Tundra 199mm brakes installed

And the mods keep coming...

So today I installed the 199mm Tundra brakes. Not too bad for those contemplating this over the 231mm brakes. I went with the 199mm because I didn't want to do any cutting or come across any unexpected issues like stuff not fitting or rubbing, etc. The only regret is that my hands were way too dirty to work my camera to take too many pictures. I did manage the one after I had the caliper on. One word of caution on these....make sure you get that caliper seal placed properly. It will leak like crazy once you get some pressure on it! I guess that's true all the time though...

So now my questions!
On the test drive, the truck shakes like crazy when applying the brakes. The faster you go, the worse the shake. Could that just be a warped rotor or what? Any other possibilities? In a moment of stupidity I didn't get the rotors turned before I started...and I decided to do it on a Sunday so that there was no possibility of help if I hit a big issue.

So I figure I'll take it to a shop tomorrow and have them turn the rotors. I'll post if that does fix it or not. Thanks in advance for any experience!

Well, the shop I went to said that they weren't worth turning, so I went to Advanced Auto and bought two new ones. $52/rotor for WearEver brand rotors. Never heard of them before, but that's not unusual since I don't do a lot of rotor replacement. Anybody heard bad or good about this rotor? It's not too late to return them and order the PRB(or PBR) rotors which the guy said were a good quality brand...

I recently installed Napa Ultra Premium rotors... they were around $55/ea for stock size. They advertise not needing to turn them before installation, so I didn't, and came out with GREAT results. 5k or so later, they are still vibration free. I'd recommend them to anyone (assuming they come in the upgraded size?)

They should work fine. Unless you have some pricey rotors, its just as easy to replace then then to have them turned down.

Ok, well right after dinner I am headed out into the rainy night to replace the wobbly crappy old warped rotors with the shiny new ones! WOOHOO! Ok, so last question: Isn't there some kind of preparation I need to do to the rotor before I put them on? Aren't they shipped with some kind of waxy film to keep them nice and shiny? What's the proper prep for new rotors?

Ok, well right after dinner I am headed out into the rainy night to replace the wobbly crappy old warped rotors with the shiny new ones! WOOHOO! Spray them down with brake parts cleaner real well to get the film off(wd40)

I tried to post this last night when I finished the brakes, but I couldn't get on the site...

I put on the new rotors and WOW! Now it's doing what it is supposed to do...stop like a....stop like a...like something that stops really good.

Final word on 199mm brakes...worth it. Do it.

I recommend it, as long as you don't pay too much for the calipers. I also put Wagner brake pads on it. Now I need to clean those rims and see if it generates as much dust as those autozone pads! Those pads made my rims dirty just sitting still! Today was my first full day of driving with it all working right, and I am very happy. You can feel it braking with even the lightest touch on the pedal. I even had to do a quick stop today and it really impressed me.

Lol...ya, thats what I have right now. In the begining they put out alot of dust, but now they are fine, but on my fiances Nissan they are still putting out alot of dust and she has had them on longer then me. How much did you get the calipers for and where?

I got the calipers, warped rotors, pads, etc...for $150. I found them on craigslist from a local guy here in Atlanta who pulled them from a Tundra in a junkyard. He was gonna put them on his rig, but I guess he decided to wait and sell them instead. That's why I look at craigslist every day...never know what somebody will want to get rid of(like maybe a desert dune hood with the scoop!!)
