Tundra 199mm Caliper and Pads questions

So I've been reading old posts on the Tundra Brake upgrade and it looks like I will end up getting the 199mm calipers since I have the split 3 rims and don't have the money to upgrade them.

So in doing this research I ran across a picture (which I cant find now) of both the 3rd Gen calipers and the 199mm calipers and to me it looked like the 4Runner calipers were bigger (unless the picture was labeled wrong, they were using used calipers so it wasn't obvious which was which).

So my question is, does anyone have a picture of the stock 3rd Gen brake pads next to the 199mm Tundra brake pads?

I want to see how much bigger they really are before I decide to do the upgrade.

The biggest difference between the two designs is the rotor width. The Tundra's wider rotor requires the caliper to slightly wider than the stock 4Runner. There isn't much difference between the brake pads of the two designs, but I do believe the Tundra pistons are slightly larger.

The noted advantage to the Tundra upgrade is the resistance to brake fading when, say, slowing down the vehicle and a trailer while driving down a hill.

I concur. I don't see the point of the 199mm upgrade other than beefier rotors that last a little longer. If you really want to see a difference, go with the 231's and get some spacers. As everyone else says, it's quite worth the money.

Funny, I ordered the 231's to find out I too have, what seems to be the only stock 16" wheel it won't work with. I refuse to grind my wheel or the caliper, so looks like ill make a quick trip to the store to exchange them.

I am however looking forward to not warping the rotors every 6months to a year.

I'm going to buy those $9.00 1/4 Inch spacers from pep boys and run them for a week to see if there are any adverse affects. If they check out alright I will go with the 13WL Calipers.

Does anyone know how involved it is to replace the front wheel studs in the 3Gen?

I doesn't look like you can just pound them out without removing the hub.

Anyone know for sure?

Note: the 199's will interfere with FZJ80 wheels and requires some grinding on the calipers to get them to clear. I will try and dig up a photo of that as well.

If I use the 1/4" Spacers I want to replace my current studs with studs that are 1/4" longer.

Got it. I didn't realize 1/4" spacers warranted longer studs. Be careful with spacers, you might run into issues with shops not wanting to install tires because of them. I know the shop I go to won't.

Page one has a confirmed list of wheels that will fit the 231. Split 3 is not one of them
I have considered spacers, but Im trying to not throw money at this project and Im not confident in the ball joints enough, so I will continually think Im gonna end up with a sheered one.
