Tundra 5100s w/ Toytec eibach coils? SEE PIC!

I tried to avoid posting a new thread about a lift the best I can, but I've been researching for a few days and couldn't find a clear answer. Maybe this can help someone else too. Everyone says bilstein 5100s will work with the 3" toytec eibach coils, but they don't say specifically if they are using the Tundra 5100s or the Tacoma/4runner 5100s.

I have Tundra 5100s with the TRD Tundra y/y and y/b coils up front and there is wayyy too much rake with my 8 wraps in the back. The height in the rear is great. But when I compare the front to it, the front doesnt even seem like its lifted....SEE PICS!

I think Id like to get rid of the TRD Tundra coils and put in some 4Runner 3" eibach coils from toytec and continue to use my tundra 5100s. Anyone know if I can do this? The coil wont be too narrow to fit over the wider tundra 5100 shock will it? Maybe there is another coil I can use up front that might work better?

I basically want to lift my front higher than it already is and continue to use the tundra 5100s. (without getting coilovers...out of my budget)

Aren't the 5100s adjustable? How high do you have them set? I have also seen people put a 3/8 top plate space on top of the TRDs, but there are those that say spacers wear out your coils...

I'm running the Tundra coils and the stock Billies (yellow bodies), and added a 3/8" top plate spacer from Toytec. The top plate spacer sits on TOP of the strut assembly, and longer studs are installed to make up the difference for the extra material sitting on top of the 4Runner top plates. This does NOT alter the ride or wear out the coils, as it is not compressing the coils like a Coil pack spacer or even an adjustable spacer. If with an adjustable strut, you are preloading your spring, thus weakening it in the long run.

Your best option is to either add the top plate spacer, or find a front coil/shock assembly that is taller than the Tundra setup.

I personally like the rake my rig has....kinda looks aggresive! Not to mention when I load it up with camping gear, and have the trailer on it...it sits almost level....not completely sagged.

Here's some shots of my setup:

Here it is fully loaded + a tent trailer in tow:

Fightman, I love the stance unloaded, but the loaded with trailer pic is sagged, your headlights will be pointing into the sky loaded like that. What setting do you have your front struts set at, lowest setting + the spacer? How much weight do you have in the back of the truck in that loaded pic?

That top plate spacer looks to be the cheap/easy answer to your problem Zachpins. What preload setting are you currently using on your front struts?

OP: I don't understand. The Tundra 5100's are specifically made to be able to be adjusted. They have more setting than the Tacoma ones, so you have a lot of adjustability even not having a full coilover. Why don'y you just move them up a couple notches and call it a day? You could move it up 1 or 2 notches and use a small top plate spacer too. You're either going to be compressing a lift spring (aka Eibach coils or OME 881, etc) or compressing your stock TRD Tundra coils.

I think what Zachpins34 is saying in a way is why are we using the Tundra coils that provides 2 inches of lift when we can use the Eibach springs that provide 3 inches of lift with the adjustable 5100's?

I know you can adjust the 5100's but every time you go up another notch you lose ride quality. It makes me wonder the same. Why should I keep bumping up notches (I am currently on the second one) or add a top plate spacer when I can just switch to a 3 inch coil?

Excuse me if I spoke incorrectly for you Zachpins34 but I guess I am still a bit confused as well. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if the Eibach springs are linear or progressive rate, and what the springrate is? The TRD coils are progressive rate, which is why they ride so nice and people are flocking to them.

I agree with IanB - the TRD progressive springs ride unbelievable good for DD purposes and flex great. Really IMO, the perfect coil for our trucks.

OP - adjust your 5100's up a notch and then decide if you want to do a top spacer.

As I understand, The top spacers provide cheap lift and won't compress the coils therefore not affecting ride quality, but is there an issue with full droop and CV breakage if you go this method? You will be furthering the droop of the suspension by the height of the spacer will you not?

The truck is completely full with 2 kids + toys to keep them occupied for 4hr drive, 2 packed coolers, clothes for a family of 4 for a week, cat litter + cat (lol), small propane bbq (roadside meals), case of beer, case of water, and the rest (blankets, chemical toilet, etc....) is in the trailer.

Another thing to add, I have the 33" spare located on the back of my rear lift gate, and this adds slightly more weight to the very rear of the truck.

Hope this helps!

You take your cat camping?

Mine are NOT adjustable....they are the stock Tundra Struts which have the 4Runner top hats and Toytec top plate spacer installed.

Here's a pic of the struts:

Everyone keeps telling the OP to adjust his 5100s up, but he might not have the adjustables. 5100s came non-adjustable too...
 Just sayin'

Zach does have the adjustables. Zach, I would bump it up one notch and see how you like the ride. If it isn't what you want then go with the Eibach's or the top plate spacers. What about getting 7 wraps instead of 8 wraps?

Is this the top plate spacer you are talking about fightman?

Front Top Plate Spacer Kit - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

With shipping I am guessing it is $70?

Getting adjustable bilsteins would give you a maximum lift of approx how many inches?

Just trying to get things straight.

Those are the ones! I got mine as part of my 3" Toytec spacer lift, just omitted the "Coil pack spacer" and used the Top plate portion to add to my Tundra Setup.

I know next to nothing about the Adjustables.....
