Tundra Bilstein 5100s Upgrade ALERT

Just FYI the Bilstein Tundra 5100 part number 24-188265 is being discontinued and upgraded to a newer part number with minor upgrades.
The new part is 24-261425 that will start shipping mid August.

After speaking with Bilstein themselves I was told the new part does include upgrades and better internal engineering but nothing too dramatic.

Another vendor today claims their bilstein rep says the new struts have and upgraded design to solve some of the "leaky" bilsteins that some people mention as well as a little different valving but not enough to tell a real performance difference.

This sucks! My new 24-261425 only came with one bushing per side and the dust boot doesn't fit inside my OME 881. Which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the metal bushing at the top of the boot. That the washer and rubber bushing rest on. Guess I'll be re-using one of my old bushing and cutting the metal bushing out of the boot[emoji35]

the newer shock is a bit shorter than the old one:

extended length: 18.35" (new p/n) vs 18.68" (old p/n)
collapsed length: 13.23"

I was going to get these installed this weekend and was wondering what I needed to do to get these to fit? Ill be using them with OME 883 and im assuming they wont fit over the boot like you mentioned? Thank you!

I ran mine without the boots. BUT... There's a little metal bushing molded into the boot that I cut out and slid back over the shaft before assembling. I also just reused my rubber bushings that were above the top plate. So far so good and really love the ride.

So I've got just a stock 97 4runner and was gonna upgrade to the 5100's. So I'm gonna have to get 5100's for a what 2000? Tundra? And I'll need new coils as well?

Bilstein now has 5100's specific to the 4Runner... Those are probably your best bet.

This is true if you plan to keep your stock or replace with new 4runner coils. However if you are looking to lift or upgrade to Tundra coils and OME coils in the rear you will wont the tundra struts. I have had mine on for a while now and have done a lot of off roading on rough terrain and everything is still like new and riding smooth.

I’m looking for about 3” lift on my 2001 4Runner

I want to use the stock front coils and tundra 5100’s pn#24-248730

For the rear I was thinking of front coils form a 95-97 Lexus lx450 (not many LC in Canada) with rear shocks from the same?

Or order these 3” lift coils from Toytec?
