tundra brake upgrade! please help

i cannot find any 199mm calipers at any junkyards around me as a matter of fact i cant even find any tundras! can someone please help me locate some i am willing to pay you if you will help me find a good deal thanks

There aren't any around us man. None down here on the coast. Try going to O'reillys and getting some they arent expensive. Use your old calipers as cores.

get 'em at any auto parts store...shouldnt be more than $150 for the pair and they'll be fresh rebuilds!

really where was that i got quoted that aside and i think it was still alittle more then that aside from a shop

i really want to do this and buying new is far better then used.

I qouted myself thru my shop discount roughly $250 with the 231's with pads and rotors.

aslo original poster, you should go with the 231's as the 199's are being discontinued soon and may be hard to find replacement parts in the future, that's why i passed on the 199's my self.

justin any chance you can get a us that discount and we can do a group buy?

I'll check into it. I could possibly get them cheaper without pads and rotors...

I personally wouldnt wanna ship rotors with them all and rape everyone in shipping charges.

IIRC the 13WL's are the larger 231's. Had to replace 1 on my 04 Tundra when I had it. Boy do I miss that truck

i know that part number but not the size of them off my head, the 199's would have to be smaller regardless of part number attached, as the xxxmm is the length of the caliper... right?

just want to be sure about all of this...

I would say you're correct.

I can't wait to throw on the 231's man they'll look good behind my new 18's


Edit: I can get 231mm Loaded @ 104.68 ea.

Depending on which stock wheels you have, you may or may not need to grind to fit the 199mm calipers. If you grind, it will be to remove around 1mm of material. The 231s require more... in the ballpark of 4mm if I remember correctly. That being saidm there is a reason why Toyota quit putting the 199s on the Tundras. They get too hot under heavy braking, and hence become only marginally better than the stock 4Runner calipers. The increase in rotor size is the biggest upgrade, as they are almost twice as thick as those on the 4Runner.

Either way you are likely going to have to do some grinding.

My recommendation is to go straight to the 231s, or stick with stock.
